Gator Man Saturday
After 46 years in the trades, I’ve watched companies add rule after rule trying to fix people problems.

But at some point, leadership has to ask a harder question:

Are we building all these processes because they make the company better… or because we keep avoiding the real problem?

Good processes matter. So does accountability.

But you can’t write enough rules to make up for keeping people you don’t trust to do the job.

𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐖𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝.
Tired of job ads written by people who should never have been allowed near a keyboard?
We fixed it.
If you’re an HVAC tech — or someone who thinks they’re an HVAC tech — this one’s for you.

𝐍𝐨𝐰 𝐇𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠: 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐃𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐂𝐫𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬
Hours:
When it’s hot.
When it’s cold.
And whenever a customer swears it just started doing that.

𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐞:
We’re looking for a technician who can diagnose equipment installed by someone who clearly hated technicians, calm panicked homeowners who swear the AC was fine yesterday, and pretend the attic temperature isn’t actively trying to kill you.
Must be comfortable working in spaces apparently designed for raccoons, not humans.

𝐑𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬:
• Must be drinking age with 20 years of HVAC experience, preferably starting at age 10
• Must tolerate thermostats installed by people who clearly hate technicians
• Must be able to climb, kneel, crawl, squeeze, and somehow get back out of spaces no human should fit in
• Must understand what the customer means when they say it makes a funny noise

𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬:
• Ability to find the air handler without a treasure map
• Can spot a bad capacitor from 20 feet away, even with bad lighting
• Comfortable working on equipment older than the customer
• Can explain that turning the thermostat to 50 degrees will not cool the house any faster

𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐭𝐬:
• Free daily workouts including ladder climbing, weightlifting, and attic crawling
• Occasionally free cold water and snacks provided by customers who feel bad for you
• Company van that may or may not have working AC
• Unlimited opportunities to hear while you’re here, can you look at one more thing
• Free sauna sessions in attics during summer months

How to Apply:
Find us. Good luck.
Walk in. We’re not picky.
Ask for the service manager and wait. He’ll get to you when he feels like it.
Tell them you can diagnose and repair an AC unit without Googling it.
If they look shocked, congratulations. You’re hired.

Some of the most important things we teach people never show up on a job description.

Skills matter.
Knowledge matters.
Making a good living matters.

But if somewhere along the way we can help somebody become a better employee, a better leader, a better husband, a better father—or simply a better human being...

that's a pretty good return on the time we invested in them.

After all these years, those are the wins I remember most.

𝐆𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐲 — 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝
A lifetime in the trades teaches you a lot.
But the lessons that last aren’t about HVAC or sales or leadership.
They’re about people.
Seeing a young tech grow into a confident man — husband, father, human being — that’s the part you carry with you.
Maybe that’s real success.

Sometimes nothing suddenly goes wrong.
It happens a little at a time.
The long hours become normal.
Stress becomes normal.
Being worn down becomes normal.
Putting yourself last becomes normal.
Accepting less than you should becomes normal.
And somewhere along the way...
you stop questioning any of it.

Maybe the harder question is...
