WE DO NOT SELL BELTS. WE FORGE CHARACTER.

Look around. The world has grown soft, complacent, and passive.
We live in a culture that rewards quick fixes, participation trophies, and superficial shortcuts. The fitness industry is crowded with belt mills and McDojos, places that hand out rank for a fee, trading real discipline for empty validation. They sell the illusion of capability while leaving you unprepared for the actual weight of the world.
We reject that entirely.
At Cain Family Martial Arts, we stand for something older, stronger, and uncompromising.

WHAT WE STAND AGAINST

Complacency: The quiet surrender to a sedentary, passive life.

Fake Mastery: The delusion that respect, skill, and strength can be bought rather than earned.

The Easy Way Out: The belief that growth ever comes without struggle, sweat, and persistence.

WHAT WE STAND FOR

Authentic Heritage: A legacy passed down from generation to generation, built on real mat time and proven skill.

Unbreakable Discipline: The internal fire that keeps you pushing forward when motivation dies.

Family & Tribe: A community where we sharpen one another. Iron sharpens iron. When one of us steps on the mat, we all rise.

Real Capability: Building physical strength, mental clarity, and practical self-defense that works when it matters most.

We don't care where you start; we care about the work you put in today.
When you step through our doors, leave the noise, the shortcuts, and the excuses outside. You are entering a sanctuary of hard work, mutual respect, and relentless self-improvement.
We don't break you down, we break bad habits down so you can build an unshakeable version of yourself. For your family. For your community. For yourself.
This isn't a leisure activity. This is a way of life.
Welcome to the Cain Family.

The Roots and Expansion of Kajukenbo
Adriano Emperado and Joe Emperado began to actively spread their newly developed system of self-defense, Kajukenbo, by teaching at local YMCAs, graduating new instructors, and expanding into neighboring areas across Hawaii. Eventually, the art was brought to the mainland United States. Their core mission was clear:

“...create the most effective street self-defense system and then bring it to the public to learn” (Conway).

While Kajukenbo stylists quickly earned a fierce reputation on the streets, mainland practitioners also began dominating tournament circuits in both sparring and forms. The standard tournament sparring format proved to be an easy adjustment for them compared to the rigorous, full-contact training style native to Kajukenbo dojos. To complement this aggressive self-defense system, beautiful traditional forms were integrated into the curriculum, helping students develop focus, discipline, balance, coordination, and overall skill.

The Genesis of Karazenpo Go Shinjutsu
Two of the system's vital early practitioners were Walter Godin and Victor “Sonny” Gascon.

Walter Godin trained in martial arts as a child and sought out Kenpo as a teenager after watching the movie “Lightning Karate” with his cousin, Bobby Lowe, who was already a Kenpo student. Godin initially tried to join Bobby’s academy, but they were no longer accepting new students. Undeterred, he kept searching for a premier training ground and was eventually referred to a Kenpo school in the Palama settlement, run by Joe Emperado.

Because of an old rivalry between neighboring Hawaiian areas, Godin was initially barred from training. However, his persistence paid off; he was finally accepted as a student and eventually became Joe Emperado's protégé and apprentice.

In 1961, SiJo Walter Godin and SiJo Victor “Sonny” Gascon teamed up to open a school in Burbank, California. Together, they co-developed a revised system featuring unique punch defense combinations, weapons defenses, and forms. They named this new system “Karazenpo Go Shinjutsu,” which breaks down as:

KARA-ZEN-PO: An acronym for Karate, Zen, and Kenpo.

Go: Meaning "five" (representing the five animals of Kenpo).

Shinjutsu: Meaning “way of self-defense.”

Bringing the Art to the East Coast
One of the standout students at the Burbank Karazenpo school was George Pesare. Grandmaster Pesare became the driving force responsible for bringing Karazenpo, Kajukenbo, and Kenpo to the American East Coast. After completing his initial training in California, he relocated to Rhode Island and established a school to teach the martial arts he had mastered. Pesare built upon this foundation, adding his own forms and punch combinations to the system while continuing his personal education under notable masters in Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido.

One of George Pesare’s most notable students was Nick Cerio. Like many pioneers in this lineage, Professor Cerio had a background in other martial arts before discovering Kenpo/Karazenpo Go Shinjutsu. He studied extensively under Grandmaster Pesare in Rhode Island and also traveled to Hawaii to train with the legendary Professor William Chow. Professor Cerio later began teaching Kenpo at his own academy, eventually revising the curriculum to create “Nick Cerio’s Kenpo.”

The Legacy of Bruce Corrigan
This rich lineage directly connects to, Bruce Corrigan. After achieving his first Black Belts in Tae Kwon Do and Judo, SiJo Bruce dedicated himself to the lifelong study of Kenpo under Professor Nick Cerio.

Beginning in the early 1980s, SiJo Bruce began augmenting his Kenpo foundation with intensive training in Kickboxing with Blackhawk Walters and the Filipino Martial Arts. Later, he expanded his expertise into Jeet Kune Do, and by the early 1990s, he immersed himself in the study of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Raven Cain was one of Bruce Corrigan's first students in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Taking what he learned from Bruce and his other teachers, Cain formatted Shaolin Kempo JuJutsu. He used Kajukenbo as the core foundation of this system, while placing a strong emphasis on the JuJutsu he learned from Grandmaster E.R. Spruiell, the kickboxing he learned from Blackhawk Walters, and the Martial Science he learned from Sky Benson.

Today Shaolin Kempo JuJutsu is taught exclusively at Cain Family Martial Arts and it is considered the Cain Family Method of KaJuKenBo.
