After consultation with our church safety team, Scruggs Academy will be CLOSED on Monday, January 26, 2026 due to weather and facility safety concerns, particularly regarding our parking lot conditions.
Students will return to school on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 unless we communicate otherwise.
We appreciate your understanding as we prioritize the safety of our students, staff, and families.

Happy Birthday to our fearless leader Ms. Nicole Stokes! We thank God for you, your vision, and your commitment to excellence. Your diligence towards showcasing the importance of African American Christian education, doesn't go unnoticed. We celebrate your life today and are grateful we get to experience God's faithfulness every day! We hope you have a great birthday!
Our first field trip of the year! We had a BLAST and now it is time for some Matthew 11:28 rest. We are using Fall Break to reset and rejuvenate! We hope all of our families have a great break too! Pumkin’ Patch is one for the books.

More new players UNLOCKED🔓! We are so glad to have Ms. Lucas joining the team this year. She graduated from Oakwood with a degree in Elementary Education in 2015 and has taught 4th grade, 6th grade, and Special Education. We're adding a new grade under her belt. SECOND!!🎉 As she teaches Second Grade this year, she is thrilled to be making an impact in their lives. Let's welcome Ms. Lucas to the winning team!

No Flags on the play with this Team Member!
Welcominnnng.... Ms. Mi-Tresa Billingsley in a new capacity to the Scruggs Academy Team. She's already made major plays in the field with JRSCDCA as she previously served as a permanent substitute and an extended day teacher during the 2024-2025 school year. Ms. Billingsley earned her B.S. in Communicative Sciences and Disorders in May 2025. This year, we are elated to provide space for her to exercise her expertise as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant and an Instructional Aide for our CDC students. We are excited to watch her help our scholars find their voices and win big every day!
Let's make this a game winning year and welcome Ms. B to her new role!

As we are gearing for the new school year, we want to accept the Share Your Story Video Challenge to potentially receive donors for our school!
Our story is one full of legacy, leadership, and a love for Christian Education. We impact the community everyday because the scholars that we pour into, actively become leaders in our community AND beyond. Just like Dr. Julius R. Scruggs, we teach them to recognize when something important is missing and seek to make the change for representation!
