A thousand thank-yous to NCTHS parent Heather Schonrock and Trigon Cyber for their $1,000 donation to New Century PTSA. Donations like this support resources and programs for faculty and students. Let us know if you or your company are interested in being a donor!

Today, let's meet our Membership Chair: Amy Jones's Huntsville story is not dissimilar to others... a small-town girl who came to the big city for a tech job in Research Park! Amy's story veered off course when she went to school not for engineering, but for business and marketing. She now works for Arts Huntsville and her personal art collection is proof that she's right at home, having been addicted to art festivals for over 25 years now.

Amy's oldest son is a junior at New Century in the computer science strand, and her youngest son is in 8th grade at Whitesburg Middle. You can find her and her husband Mark at Bandito Burrito every Saturday. No seriously. It's her thing!

Amy is not afraid to admit that candy corn is her all-time favorite candy, which she will gladly enjoy while watching all of the football games on all of the channels all season long. Roll Tide and Go Miami Dolphins!

And since Amy is the Membership Chair, do her a favor and sign up today! https://newcenturytech.givebacks.com/store?limit=21&live=true

More from "Meet Your PTSA Board"! Heather Schonrock is currently serving as the Vice President of the New Century PTSA. She has a freshman in the computer science strand, and her oldest graduated in 2024 from New Century and will attend Berry College this fall. She works as the Chief Science Officer for Trigon Cyber, Inc., who is working with six NCTHS interns for the 2024/2025 school year.

She suffers from chronic volunteerism and not only serves on the NCTHS PTSA board, but also gives her time to The Riley Center, the Committee of 100, Leadership Greater Huntsville, the Skating Club of Huntsville, U.S Figure Skating, and HudsonAlpha Ambassadors. Despite being the slowest runner on planet Earth, she has completed 17 half marathons in 15 states. She also participates in the Rocket City Curling Club and judges competitive figure skating.

Whether you're a half-marathoner or more of a professional napper (or both), we've got a spot for you! Volunteering for the PTSA might not help you run a marathon (or even a 5K), but it will definitely give you a front-row seat to your child's high school experience—and maybe a few good stories to tell. So why not join the PTSA? It’s the most fun you can have without needing a pair of running shoes! Join today! https://newcenturytech.givebacks.com/store?limit=21&live=true

Next up on our list of PTSA officers is Lucia Cape!

Lucia is serving as secretary for the New Century PTSA this year after completing terms as president, membership and community engagement committee chair. She currently has a junior in the biomed strand, and her oldest graduated from New Century in 2023 and is attending UAH in engineering.

Lucia loves music, and despite having no musical ability, she once played percussion in a nightclub in Havana. Everyone who heard that performance agrees that she should stick to her day job with the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber. She is passionate about public education and believes that parental engagement helps make New Century the number one high school in North Alabama, so join the PTSA and volunteer for one of our committees!

Continuing this week's theme of meeting your PTSA leadership, let us introduce Meghan Nester.
Meghan is our New Century PTSA Hospitality Chairperson.

If there’s food at an event, odds are she ferried it over to school. Meghan’s cooking is just okay-ish but we’re letting her keep the job for a second year because sometimes her mom sends in cookies and we don’t want to lose the hookup. Her oldest son is a recent NCTHS grad and her second son is an incoming freshman.

When she’s not hauling 18 pizzas into the building you can find her buried in homework for her last few grad school classes. She also likes to hike, sew, and scramble up the sides of cliffs trying to keep up with her kids’ daredevil hobbies.

Please join her hospitality committee and help her survive this chaotic year with a few shreds of sanity intact!

The New Century Technology High School PTSA would like to welcome everyone back for the 2024/25 school year. For those who haven't been involved in the PTSA in the past, we have some amazing volunteers... and we also have this year's president, Dennis Madsen.

Dennis Madsen became PTSA president when he was tricked into taking possession of the PTSA binder, and he will only be freed from this obligation if he can hand the binder off to someone else. So if you see him coming down the hall, holding a huge three-ring volume, back away slowly...

For those of you who *would* like to get involved, the easiest way is to sign up for a 2024/25 membership: https://newcenturytech.givebacks.com/store?limit=21&live=true. Check out the family membership in particular - It's up to four folks (including your student/s) for the price of two-and-a-half.

While you're signing up, check out all the other options in the store: Donate for a teacher breakfast or a faculty t-shirt, or rep your school with a car magnet or yard sign. So many ways to support the amazing students, faculty, and staff at New Century!
