September at ONSC 🍂

1. Our first group of the fall season. We loved having you, Connect Education Co-op!
2. Cornelia’s big shed
3. She turned such a dusty purple right before
4. Alex and Dr. Perry met to talk about bringing Rogers Public Schools programs back to ONSC
5. So much tree work
6. Our new compost system
7. A beautiful mural of some of the creatures and features round these parts. It’s all done now, but you’ll have to come to the Hootenanny to see it!

Not pictured: the hundreds of students we’ve connected with so far this month, from STEAM field trips at Crystal Bridges to the 90+ EAST kiddos from Springdale Public Schools JO Kelly Middle School and Helen Tyson Middle School who immersed themselves on our trails yesterday. It’s been a wild, full month, and we’re so grateful to the partners, parents, and kids who’ve been part of it. 💚

Studying nonprofit management, business, communications, or something related? Come see what fundraising and event production really look like at a working nonprofit.

ONSC is hiring a Spring Development & Events Intern! You'll work directly with our CEO on donor communications, grant support, and event logistics — think weekend workshops, a community happy hour, and planning for our fall event season. A real behind-the-scenes seat at how a small nonprofit raises money and builds relationships.

Apply before October 16th - link in comments!

In honor of reaching a huge milestone, we’re throwing it back to our roots. These pictures show the magnitude of impact that can unfold from a group of people coming together for the greater good. We found a box of these photo gems and had so much fun going through them — each picture holds so many memories.

Today we’re making more memories. We have officially raised over $100,000 toward our goal of becoming a renewable solar energy powered nature center. This week The Stitt Group came out and staked proposed panel locations, the first physical sign that this vision is becoming reality. We have $25k left to go to get shovels in the ground, so we’re still in fundraising mode over here, and we’re equally grateful for all the support we have gotten and will get.

Ozark Natural Science Center was put in motion by the Ewing family over 35 years ago. Their vision along with the hard work of so many has brought this mission to life. Every camper who has hiked these trails, every teacher who has brought a class through these woods, and every donor who has believed in this place is part of the story they started.

Solar power is a big part of the next chapter, powering the next 35 years of connecting people to the Ozarks. We will be doing our best to pay it forward, the same way this first generation did for us.
