The 2026 CSCD HR Forum is underway in San Marcos, TX. Things started off with great success with HR 101, also known as the CSCD Boot Camp. This year’s program is being held September 16-18, 2026, in San Marcos, Texas, at the Embassy Suites San Marcos Hotel.

The CSCD HR Forum was established in 2012 to create and provide an opportunity for CSCD Human Resources directors and staff to meet and discuss topics, challenges, and ideas relevant to management of personnel within adult probation agencies. The program also includes “The Legal Corner”, providing updates on legal topics important to HR professionals in probation agencies. Though the annual event has grown from the initial intimate group meeting and now includes attendees from other criminal justice agencies, the format of a “conversation” remains.

The Correctional Management Institute of Texas is pleased to announce we are accepting nominations for the annual Jail Mental Health Officer Master Trainer Course VII. The 2027 session will be held February 22-26, 2027, at the George J. Beto Criminal Justice Center on the Sam Houston State University campus in Huntsville, TX.

This Master Trainer course of the Jail Mental Health Officer Certification Program will equip trainers with the ability to effectively facilitate the program and develop community partners who will collaboratively deliver the curriculum to county jail staff. Additionally, it is the goal of providing this course to make trainers available across the state, where agencies may not have the resources to deliver this training.

Agencies who attend are committed to delivering this curriculum and opening their JMHO courses to outside participants and to supporting delivery of the training in areas where it is not accessible.

This training is designed for licensed county jailers in the State of Texas who have completed the 5900 Jail Mental Health Officer (JMHO) training and obtained their JMHO certification through TCOLE.

Time is running out to register for the Courtroom Security Training, presented by the Correctional Management Institute of Texas. This session will be held September 22, 2026 in Kerrville, TX and will feature speaker Nick Barsetti, a Court Security Specialist with the Texas Office of Court Administration’s Court Security Division.

Empower your team with the knowledge and skills to help maintain a safe and secure courthouse environment. This training offers practical guidance on recognizing potential threats, responding to emergencies, using effective de-escalation strategies, and applying best practices for courthouse safety. Designed for court employees, law enforcement partners, and other justice system professionals, this session helps strengthen preparedness and supports a safer environment for staff, visitors, and judicial personnel.

Nick Barsetti is a Court Security Specialist with the Texas Office of Court Administration’s Court Security Division, a position he has held since January of 2020. His duties include providing security consultation services to Judicial Officers, court leadership and law enforcement regarding threats against judges and court staff, conducting physical security assessments on court facilities, and working with courts and justice partners to improve the security of Texas courts. Nick is also a staff instructor who teaches safety, security and disaster preparedness courses throughout the state.

Nominations will close soon for the November 2026 session of the Mid-Management: Leadership for Corrections Professionals program, which will take place November 2–6, 2026 in Huntsville, TX. The deadline to submit a nomination form for this session is September 18, 2026.

This five-day training is designed for mid-level managers to senior level leaders from Texas juvenile and adult probation departments, adult and juvenile institutions, parole, and jail staff from Texas Sheriff’s Offices.

Mid-Management: Leadership for Corrections Professionals is not a conference or seminar whereby everyone and anyone that applies will attend. This program is limited to 30 participants. Staff must be nominated by their Director/Sheriff and nomination forms and letters of support must be submitted by the program deadlines.

The Resource Training Officer (RTO) Team assisted in planning the 2027 schedule for the Juvenile Probation Officer (JPO) Basic Training program.

JPO Basic is a week-long training program that provides participants with the mandatory coursework required to be eligible for the state certification examination. At the conclusion of the training, participants sit for the certification exam as part of the certification process. Completion of JPO Basic does not guarantee appointment as a juvenile probation officer; rather, it serves as the foundational first step toward certification. To enroll in the program, participants must be employed by a local juvenile probation department.

The RTO team consists of the following; Julio Acevedo of El Paso Juvenile Probation, Michelle Hallock of Fort Bend County Juvenile Probation, John Milam of Nueces County Juvenile Probation, Isaac Neal of Hunt County Juvenile Probation, Dan Reeves of 1st Judicial District Juvenile Probation, Kristina Sandoval of Brazoria County Juvenile Probation, John Kinsey of the Texas Juvenile Justice Department and Abe Jimenez of the Texas Juvenile Justice Department. Their time and commitment is greatly appreciated.

This session also welcomed two new RTO Officers; Glenn Stout of Cass County Juvenile Probation and Ana Garcia of Webb County Juvenile Probation.

Michelle Hallock was voted to receive the RTO of the Year Award.
