SCIENCE!! πŸ‘¨πŸ½β€πŸ”¬πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸ”¬
At ADB one of our main daily focus objectives is building self confidence and independence. Science activities are a great way to peak a childs natural curiosity!

Why are we constantly saying "NO" when we can create opportunities to say "YES" to making a mess, creating, and exploring in a safe and fun environment.

Trial and error develops the RESILIENCE needed not only for higher learning but daily life as our children continue to grow and develop their own personalities.

Hands on activities help our children problem solve, understand cause and effect, foster positive social skills, and sooo much more!!

🚨 If you want to know what's being taught in the classrooms, just watch the children... Children do more of what they see than what we say!

Reading to children: πŸ“š
~ Sets the foundation for academic success
~ Strenthens language & vocabulary by introducing new words. (allow the children to participate by answering open ended questions, point to pictures, and use their words)
~ Builds areas of the brain affected by listening, visualizing, and processing information
~ Bonding

A variety of stories help children process emotions like anger, sadness, happiness, excitement, and can even assist with challenging behavior when they can see themselves in a story
~ Logical Thinking
What happens next as well as actions & consequences

~ School Readiness

Teacher engagement is a critical part of successful learning on any level. Especially important for young children as we are laying the foundation for higher learning, social ability, as well as building self confidence.

Did you know? πŸ’‘πŸ€” Teacher engagement:
~ Encourages healthy attachment
~ Promotes social-emotional learning
~ Fewer classroom challenges with behavior
~ Higher job satisfaction (engaging with children on their level makes for a better day & allow the teacher to witness their hard work in action)

Teachers have the ability to build a safe environment not just for learning but exploring & asking questions.

Teacher engagement promotes strong language skills, self expression, as well as literacy.

Dramatic play gives opportunities to show empathy, problem solving, & self control.

Play time with adults can become great opportunities to teach children how to resolve conflict & reduce challenging behavior.

During regular play activities, teacher engagement can also reduce the number of accidents throughout the day.

How will they know, UNLESS we teach them!

Milestone moments with Keaston!!

Age: 3 months

Did you know?πŸ’‘πŸ€”

Children do not naturally know how to play.

Positive play is developed starting with parent/teacher engagement, encouragement, social and age appropriate activities, items that stimulate a response and build imagination. Play time is most successful and fun when being lead by example and kept simple and FUN!

What are some of the things we can do to encourage young infants to play while achieving their developmental milestones? πŸ€”

An infants environment should first, be clean and safe for exploring. Although young infants are stationary most of the day, it is still important that cribs, floor mats, infants seats and etc. are inspected and prepared for daily infant activities. (A young Infants position should be changed every 20 minutes or so to prevent fatigue)

Fancy, high tech, items may be useful but are not necessary. One of the most beneficial learning tools for beginning play activities we can use is parent/teacher engagement! (Bonding time!)

Did you know that your face and voice can be one of the most interesting OR disturbing things for a young infant during play activities? 🀭 (Sometimes they smile and sometimes they give us thoss adorable pouting lips followed by a cry) Its a toss up but a good one either way!! (Infant communication looks like BOTH of these reactions) We should be Intentional about talking, singing, and making faces to encourage imitation and back-and-forth communication.

In this short video, Keaston is learning
β€’ Visual Stimulation using a crib mobile with high-contrast colors (appropriate for age 6wks - 5months. Black, white, & primary colors) As she becomes older, bright, varied colors will continue to help strengthen her eye muscles and improve her focus.

Crib and others mobiles are essential for the classroom as well as at home to increase your young infants development.

Why?
1) Visual enhancement and focus
2) Fine & Gross motor skills, as they learn to move, reach, and grasp
3) Cognitive growth (memory, movement, spacial awareness) while providing a soothing, calm atmosphere, as well as an entertaining playtime while being awake inside the crib.
Mobiles encourage infants to focus on moving objects and high-contrast patterns, which help develop perception and object recognition.

NOTE:
● Positioning Is important: Ensure the mobile is hung securely out of reach, typically directly over the center of the crib, and the infant is placed in a position does not cause them to strain to be able to see or focus.
● Removing the mobile: Remove the mobile once the baby starts trying to push up on their hands and knees or reaches and can fully grasp mobile objects (around 5 months old) to prevent injury.
