McDonnell Elementary School

Please make sure your child is registered for the upcoming school year as soon as possible. We are currently finalizing class lists, and students who are not registered will not be placed in a classroom until registration is completed. At this time, more than 150 students are still not registered.

Our summer office hours are Monday–Thursday from 8:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m., closed for lunch from 12:00–1:00 p.m. Families who do not complete registration at the school before summer ends will need to visit the Huntsville City Schools Enrollment Center, where wait times are expected to be very long.

Thank you for taking care of this as quickly as possible.

This year has been amazing, filled with learning, fun, and too many memories to count, but it’s time to send these prek kiddos to kindergarten! We wish you well Pre-K!

Today was such a special day at McDonnell Elementary! 🎓💙

We were honored to welcome back several graduating seniors from Grissom High School who once walked the halls of McDonnell as students themselves. Our students and staff lined the hallways to cheer them on during a joyful Senior Clap Out Parade celebrating their upcoming graduation!

After the parade, the seniors spent time reconnecting with former teachers, sharing memories, and even enjoying a little time on the playground again. It was a beautiful reminder that once you are part of the McDonnell family, you are always part of our family.

We are so proud of these students and excited to see all the amazing things ahead for them. Congratulations, Class of 2026! 🎉

The First Grade Team would like to give a huge thank you to Papa Johns Alabama North Central for supporting our students by donating pizzas for our student growth achievement celebration!

Our students were recognized for the amazing progress they made this year in both I-Ready and DIBELS testing. From the beginning of the year to the end, their hard work, determination, and growth truly stood out, and we were so excited to celebrate their accomplishments.

The students were thrilled and felt so special knowing their effort and success did not go unnoticed. From the entire McDonnell Elementary School community, thank you again for helping us make this celebration memorable!

Today, students at McDonnell Elementary who demonstrated responsibility, respect, and safety throughout the last 9 weeks earned a well-deserved PBIS celebration with Inflatable Palooza! 🎉

Students had an amazing time bouncing and playing their way through multiple bounce houses, a giant slide, a 40 foot obstacle courses and exciting field games including basketball, soccer, archery, axe throwing, and baseball.

The laughter, smiles, and energy were nonstop all day long, and we were especially grateful for the beautiful weather and Redstone volunteers that made the celebration even more enjoyable!

We are so proud of our students for showing what it means to be respectful, responsible, and safe every day at McDonnell Elementary!

Congratulations to our incredible educators at the Hive on earning their Master’s degrees while continuing to inspire students every day! Shannon Pennington (Differentiated Instruction with an ESOL Certification), Maya Bryant (Elementary Education), and Amaya Dixon (Special Eduaction), your hard work, dedication, and commitment to growth do not go unnoticed. We are so proud of you and thankful for the impact you make both inside and outside the classroom! 🎓🍎💛

We wrapped up Teacher Appreciation Week in the BEST way today! 🍳🐟🎁

Our teachers were treated to a delicious omelette bar breakfast, enjoyed amazing catfish provided by Mr. Barnes, and were showered with awesome gifts throughout the day. We are so thankful for the love, support, and generosity shown to our staff all week long!

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who helped make this week so special for the incredible teachers of our school. Your kindness and appreciation mean more than words can say! ❤️🍎
