About the name The Ford…
When I found out Isaiah had dyslexia, it felt like we were standing on one side of a giant lake with no idea how to get to the other side.
What started as a desire to find the right instruction for him eventually turned into a passion for helping other struggling readers.
A ford is a crossing place, a bridge from one side to the other, a way to get across. I named The Ford after Isaiah Ford to honor his resiliency and to let his story be a reminder that there is hope.
My goal is to give children the skills and confidence they need to reach the other side!

Hi and welcome to The Ford Dyslexia Therapy!
I’m Amy Ekis, dyslexia therapist and mom of two here in Huntsville, Alabama.
Through teaching, working with students, and completing my M.Ed. in Dyslexia Therapy, I’ve seen firsthand that reading struggles can affect confidence and the way children see themselves.
My goal is to provide evidence-based Structured Literacy instruction through engaging, multisensory intervention in a warm, encouraging environment where students can build skills and confidence. I believe every child can learn to read with the proper instruction, and every child deserves someone in their corner who sees their strengths, encourages growth, and helps them discover they are capable of doing hard things.
I’m excited to walk alongside families and support students in our community as they build confidence and grow as readers.
I am currently accepting students for dyslexia therapy this fall and enrolling for Summer Reading Camp in June! Link in profile to register ☀️📚

☀️ I’m so excited to officially open enrollment for Summer Reading Camp through The Ford Dyslexia Therapy! ☀️
This camp was created for students who would benefit from extra reading support over the summer in a fun, encouraging small-group setting.
Summer can be the perfect time to strengthen skills, build confidence, and help prevent the summer slide before the next school year begins.
And the best part? It’s a low time commitment for families, just one hour a day, Monday through Thursday, leaving plenty of time for pool days, playtime, and weekends free.
If your child has struggled with reading, spelling, fluency, or would benefit from a strong literacy foundation, I’d love to help.
Spots are limited, and groups will stay small so each student gets meaningful support.

“"My compensatory skills played a role in my success as a scientist because one has to intuit many different things that are going on at the same time and apply those to a particular problem to not just concentrate on one of them, but to bring many in laterally.”
Rather than seeking to eliminate the non-typicals, perhaps the case of Carol Grieder is a reminder that we should embrace those who see things a bit differently.”
Great Women of Science- Carol Grieder, the Nobelist with Dyslexia
From grade-school “remedial” teaching to the Nobel stage, molecular biologist Carol W. Greider turned obstacles into fuel for discovery. Her groundbreaking discovery of a crucial enzyme, telomerase, reshaped our understanding of aging, cancer, and cellular immortality. Greider’s story is a reb...

“When those of us that think ‘differently’ are forced to fit into square boxes:
“At school I feel like I am a star shape being wedged into square hole. To fit in, I have to break off all my sparkly points… but they are my best bits.” – George
L💛VE this sooooo much!
This is often what it feels like to be a school kid with dyslexia.”

So proud of Isaiah. We get up early to get his session in before school and he has had the best attitude this week. He is working hard on digraph ch, prefixes, cursive, descriptive paragraphs, and derivative spelling this morning!
