Sam Houston State University recently honored five faculty members whose excellence in teaching, service, scholarship and academic engagement has made a meaningful impact on the Bearkat community with the 2026 Faculty Excellence Awards.

It's a record year of generosity at Sam Houston State University. 🧡

SHSU raised $31,368,353.70 in gifts and commitments during fiscal year 2026, the highest annual fundraising total in university history and 17% higher than FY25. The milestone marks the fifth consecutive year of fundraising growth at .

During FY26, the 18,419 gifts supported students, faculty, research, academic programs and experiences across the university, including:

✔️ 44 new endowments representing more than $15.1 million in gifts and commitments
✔️ 30 new scholarship endowments and 15 current-use scholarship funds
✔️ A record-setting $564,375 raised during Giving Day
✔️ Six gifts or commitments of $1 million or more, including a $10 million commitment from Quanta Services to establish the Quanta Services Athletic Quasi Endowment

This record reflects the continued commitment of Bearkats and friends of SHSU to creating opportunities for students and strengthening the university for generations to come.

Pritchett Field is back and better than ever.🐾

Sam Houston State University is celebrating the official reopening of Pritchett Field, the original home of Bearkat Football. Today, the field serves as a home for Bearkat Women’s Soccer, men’s and women’s rugby, men’s and women’s club soccer, quadball and women’s club lacrosse.

The revamped field features new turf, rugby goalposts and a shock pad designed to reduce impact-related injuries for contact sports, creating an improved experience for Bearkat student-athletes. The upgrades also mark an exciting new chapter for programs with deep roots at .

With new turf underfoot and new memories ahead, Pritchett Field is ready for its next chapter of Bearkat competition.
