Congratulations to Katelyn Blankenburg on receiving an Academic Community Engagement Mini-Grant to bring heartbeat recording technology to the SHSU Music Therapy Program! 🎶❤️
Heartbeat recordings are a powerful tool in music therapy, used to support connection, reflection, emotional expression, and legacy-centered care. In hospice and end-of-life settings, music therapists can weave a patient's heartbeat into personalized music or recordings that families return to for comfort, remembrance, and a continued sense of closeness long after a loved one is gone.
Thanks to this grant, our students will get to use this technology throughout their coursework and practicum experiences, gaining hands-on training in innovative, evidence-informed clinical practice and deepening what's possible in our program.

The Single Reed Institute at SHSU is a unique opportunity for young clarinet and saxophone players with at least 3 years of playing experience to participate in music making outside of their own school program. Students will have the opportunity to work with SHSU faculty Patricia Card (clarinet) and Masahito Sugihara (saxophone). The students participate in technique boot camp, masterclasses, chamber music and choir experiences. Space is limited so register soon!
