We are honored & thrilled to announce this year’s Joan May recipient, Christy Hochberger Bates.

Christy Hochberger Bates’ connection to Huntsville Ballet spans more than 50 years. Inspired after seeing The Nutcracker in 1975, she began ballet at age three at Community Ballet School, where she studied for 14 years and spent seven years as a Company Dancer. Over 11 productions of The Nutcracker, she performed featured roles including Clara, Snow Princess, and Dew Drop Fairy.

Christy’s dedication continued beyond the stage through leadership and volunteer service. She served on the Community Ballet Association Board of Directors from 2003–2012, helping grow donor support, writing grants, and launching successful fundraisers like the Nutcracker Boutique.

She also served as President and Treasurer of the Huntsville Ballet Guild and volunteered for many years backstage and in the costume wardrobe. Christy’s lifelong passion for ballet has left a lasting impact on Huntsville Ballet and the community.

Thank you, Christy, for taking your passion & turning it into volunteer work. You emulate what a sweet & humble servant truly looks like in everything you do.

The 2026 Soirée featured artist is Rossina Boyer of

Rossina will create a live painting during the Soiree and Fashion Show, and guests will have the opportunity to bid on the finished piece, with 30% of the proceeds benefiting the Huntsville Ballet Company.
