📚 Hey Bearkats! Don't forget, September 3rd (Census Day) is the last day to drop a full-term FALL 2026 course without receiving a "Q" grade. Be sure to review your schedule and make any necessary changes before the deadline!

✅ Drop on or before September 3: Receive a tuition credit and the course will not appear on your transcript.
⚠️ Drop after September 3: You'll receive a Q-drop, no tuition credit, and a "Q" will appear on your transcript. Reminder, you are only allowed six "Q" drops in your undergraduate academic career

A record-breaking start to Fall 2026. 👏

Sam Houston State University has welcomed the largest first-time freshman class in university history, with 3,567 first-time freshmen enrolled as of the first day of classes on Aug. 19, an 8.7% increase over Fall 2025.

The milestone reflects SHSU’s continued efforts to expand access, strengthen connections with prospective students and showcase the academic opportunities and student experience that make Sam Houston a destination for students from across Texas and beyond.

Tucked away on the west side of Austin Hall, the Jewel Garden is a peaceful outdoor retreat with a rich history. Originally a steep, muddy slope, the area was transformed by the Senior Class of 1948 into the beautiful space visitors enjoy today. Featuring a sunken fountain, colorful flowerbeds, and precious stones embedded throughout the landscape, the garden earned its sparkling name for a reason!
