SHSU Center for Community Engagement - CCE Our mission is to enhance student learning by promoting community partnerships, initiatives, and research to meet community needs.

The Center also aims to strengthen the experiential understanding and commitment of our students to civic engagement. The Center for Community Engagement (CCE) is SHSU’s hub for campus-community connections and collaborations. Through Community Partnership Development, Faculty Development, and Student Development, the CCE designs, plans, manages, and promotes many initiatives that enhance the culture of community and civic engagement. The CCE is dedicated to maintaining SHSU’s status as a community engaged campus recognized nationally since 2010 by the Carnegie Foundation. Our Vision:

We love investing in the personal and professional development of students through our work with faculty on Academic Community Engagement (ACE) courses, but we also find great joy in helping to shape students while working with us at the CCE!

Madison stepped on campus ready to achieve her goals, and we were honored to play a small part in her journey at Sam Houston State University.

We hosted one of our favorite events of the year last week: The Academic Community Engagement (ACE) Faculty Appreciation Luncheon!

Building community with faculty across campus, and disciplines, allows for collaborative initiatives and prompts the discovery of where ACE courses may overlap.

We also love celebrating our incredible faculty members with moments of recognition and prizes in honor of their dedication to ACE! 🎉

Thank you to our most recent Faculty Excellence in ACE award winner (a prestigious university-level award!), Dr. Zachary Doleshal, for sharing about his incredible ACE teaching experiences and their impact.

We would also like to recognize Dr. Anne Gaillard, Vice Provost for Faculty and Student Excellence, for taking the time to join us and expressing her appreciation for the great work of our ACE faculty.

We look forward to reconvening and celebrating again next fall! In the meantime, you can always stop by CHSS 262 for chocolate and coffee!

Congratulations to our partners with Walker County EDC on a great event: hosting the FIRST EVER Walker County Economic Development Conference & Expo!

We have enjoyed seeing collaborative efforts grow between the county, city, university, school districts, and local businesses. Working together boosts economic success, education, and forward momentum in the county.

Finally, we want to shout out our Workforce Ready Kat (WRK student), Madison Unger (majoring in Victim Studies), for her contributions to the EDC and our community. While working with the EDC over the past three semesters, we have seen Madison grow and develop important skills, personally and professionally. Applying knowledge while gaining hands-on experiences makes SHSU a great place to be!

Check out what our Workforce Ready Kats (WRK) students are up to at BEARS Etc.! Through their placements as animal care keepers, our students are gaining hands-on, career-relevant experience while applying what they’ve learned in the classroom to a real-world work environment. They’re also developing the professional skills, dispositions, and confidence they’ll carry with them well beyond graduation. We’re grateful to our WRK program partners for helping our students prepare for what’s next!
