Important Announcement from the Dean of Student Office:
Dear Bearkat Community,
Sam Houston State University is committed to ensuring a safe, accessible, and pedestrian-friendly campus. To support this mission and learn more about safe device operation, please review the key policy highlights below.
Key Highlights of the Policy:
• Definition: Micro-mobility devices are personal mobility tools, including self-propelled devices (e.g., skateboards, bicycles) and motorized devices (e.g., motorized bicycles, electric scooters, hoverboards) used by students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors. This definition does not include devices covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The policy outlines the regulations for the use, storage, and operation of micro-mobility devices on university property.
• Prohibited Areas: Micro-mobility devices are not allowed to operate within the interior of the campus. Additionally, these devices, especially rechargeable ones, are prohibited in university buildings, including residence halls.
• Permitted Use: Micro-mobility devices must be operated safely and without recklessness. Riders should maintain a low speed, especially in the presence of pedestrians, who always have the right of way.
• Parking & Storage: Micro-mobility devices must be locked and stored on designated bicycle racks. Parking in inappropriate areas, such as blocking entrances, exits, stairwells, or ADA access points, may result in the device being impounded.
• Safety Compliance: Users of micro-mobility devices are required to comply with all relevant laws and university policies.
