Rondell Daniel Moore has participated in the Mae C. Jemison High School Band (Marching, Concert, and Jazz Band), Cap and Gown, the Tri-M Music Honor Society, and Cyber Security as a student at Mae C. Jemison High School. Next year he plans to attend Alabama A&M university and get a degree in Music Education. He says "Shout-out to Mr. Pearson, my friends, and my family for supporting me throughout high school."
Kihya Chandrell Pettway has participated in the Mae Jemison High School College Academy, was the Clarinet Section Leader of the Mae C. Jemison High School Band, was the President of Future Teachers of Alabama, was the Secretary of Tri-M Music Honor Society, and a was a member of the National Honor Society as a student at Mae C. Jemison High School. She has been accepted to University of Alabama at Birmingham, Alabama State University, Auburn University at Montgomery, Tennessee State University, and Alabama A&M University. She has received scholarship offers from Simmons College, Alabama State University, and Alabama A&M University. She plans on attending Alabama A&M University on the AAMU Heritage Silver Scholarship and will major in Elementary Education. She says โ€œI would like to shout-out MSOS, Te Kira Jefferson, Mrs. Sheila Johnson, Ms. Kathryn Lewis, Mr. Pearson, my grandmother, my siblings, and my Mom. They were always there to remind me of the light that shined within me even when I couldn't see it for myself and I thank them for that.โ€
Bryan Edward Butler has participated in the Mae C. Jemison High School Band Marching and Jazz Band as a Captain and Alto Sax Section Leader and as member of the National Society of High School Scholars as a student at Mae C. Jemison High School. She plans to attend college and major in Business Marketing and minor in Music. He has been accepted to Jacksonville State University ($2000 scholarship), Talladega College ($17,104 Tornado scholarship), Alabama A&M University ($20,000 Heritage Silver Award), Stillman College ($20,000 Band scholarship), Alabama State University ($20,000 Band scholarship), South Carolina State University ($40,000 Band scholarship), Fisk University ($20,000 Band scholarship), Miles College, Jackson State University, Alcorn State University, Tennessee State University, Simmons College of Kentucky, and Valdosta State University. He says โ€œI want to give special shout-outs to my parents, brother and granny for always supporting, encouraging and loving me, to the teachers for all your help and encouragement, to Mr. Holder for always being helpful, and to my mentors Mr. Pearson, Mr. Lockhart, and all of MSOS! This year has not been easy but with faith and motivation am still pushing on. Jags for Life, Class of 2021.โ€
Aaliyah Nya Battle has participated in the Mae C. Jemison High School Band as a student at Mae C. Jemison High School. Next year she plans to go college to be a pediatric nurse. She has received scholarships from Alabama State University and Stillman College. She has also been accepted to Miles College and Jacksonville State University. She is currently undecided but thinking about going to Alabama State University. She says โ€œI would like to give a huge shout out to my mom and dad for being my biggest support system also shout to my band director for helping me get scholarships from those schools. I really and truly appreciate and love them! โ€
On Saturday, May 8, 2021, the Mae C. Jemison High School Band will be hosting the return of the Rocket City Band Brawl. This event will take place in Huntsville, AL at Milton Frank Stadium and will begin promptly at 4pm.

The Pre-show will kick-off with the "Parade of Bands" @ 3:30pm, which will individually highlight each band as they enter the stadium.

The exhibition will showcase 2 bands going head-to-head in the center of the field. The Brawl will be jamboree style. Each band will perform 5 selections of its choosing and 2 percussion features. Bands will also be allowed to play during field transitions.

Te Kira Jefferson has participated in the Mae Jemison High School College Academy, National Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Mae C. Jemison High School Band where she was a Captain, AUM Foundation Pathway2Success program, and was a Barbering Apprentice as a student at Mae C. Jemison High School. Next year she plans to attend Tennessee State University or Alabama A&M University. She has received scholarships from Tuskegee University, Alabama A&M University, Jacksonville State University, Alabama State University, the University of Montevallo, and Miles College. She is going to major in Business Administration. She says โ€œI would like to shout out my mom, dad, Kihya Pettway, Mr. Pearson, and all of MSOS. I appreciate them because they keep me going and motivated to pick myself back up when I am knocked down. Because of Mr. Pearson I am a great leader today and when I meet new people they admire that about me. I also want to shout out my big sister Laurice Jefferson because sheโ€™s the reason I learned to go for anything I want myself by any means necessary and Iโ€™m never too young to start pursuing greatness. I have too many people that I can shout out so to all of my family and friends reading this, thank you and I love you all so much.โ€
Merelin Sumari Mejia-Gonzales has participated in the Mae C. Jemison High School Band as trumpet section leader, the Soccer Team, the National Honor Society, and the Student Government Association as Miss Senior. Her current plans are to attend to a college and major in Business Marketing. She has been accepted to Jacksonville State University, Talledega College, Stillman College, Miles College, Alabama A&M University, Tuskegee College, Defiance College, Calhoun Community College, and Alabama State University. She has received academic scholarships from Jacksonville State University, Miles College, Alabama A&M University, and Defiance College. She says โ€œI want to shout-out my family for always supporting me, Coach Marshall and Coach Lewis for always pushing me to do better and seeing the good in my abilities, our principals for making sure us seniors at least have a good year even through the pandemic, and last but not least I want to give huge shout outs to our band staff Mr. Pearson, Mr. Brownlee, and Mr. Legg for their support and the hard work that they have put into the band and for giving opportunities to us and creating memories! MSOS1x!!!!!!!!โ€
Taylor Simone Jones has participated in the Mae C. Jemison High School Band, the National Honor Society, the Tri-M Music Honor Society, and Cap & Gown as a student at Mae C. Jemison High School. Next year, she plans to go to Miles College and major in health professions and become a surgical technician. She also wants to minor in studio arts.
She has been accepted to Full Sail University, Tuskegee University where she received a $3,400 band scholarship, Wingate University where she received a $20,000 a year scholarship, Miles College where she received a $20,000 scholarship and a $16,000 per year band scholarship, Alabama State University where she received a $4,800 band scholarship, Alabama A&M University, the University of Montevallo where she received a $14,000 scholarship, the University of South Alabama where she received a $2,000 per semester scholarship, the Academy of Art University, LeGrange College, the University of Alabama where she received a $6,000 scholarship, Simmons College where she received a $5,000 per year band scholarship, and Jacksonville University where she received a $4,000 per semester scholarship. She says "I would like to shout out to my mama Stacey Jones for helping me and teaching life skills and being the best mother and I really appreciate you. Also, I want to shout out my Band director Mr. Pearson for being the best band director ever and pushing us to succeed and teaching us life skills, I also appreciate you. Ms. Lewis thank you for being such a fun history teacher. I want to shout our Mr. Holder for being the best assistant principal ever, you always went out your way to help me and I really appreciate you for everything. Thank you to everybody who helped me."
Tiffany Elizabeth Jones has participated in the Mae C. Jemison High School Band, Tennis, the National Honor Society, the Tri-M Music Honor Society, HOSA, and Cap & Gown as a student at Mae C. Jemison High School. She plans on attending Miles College in the fall. She wants to major in Psychology and minor in Business. Sheโ€™s been accepted to the University of Montevallo where she received $2,500, Jacksonville State University where sheโ€™s received $6,000, Wingate University where sheโ€™s received the Presidential Scholarship ($22,000), Residential Scholarship ($5,000), Bulldog Pride Scholarship ($1,000), and a Wingate Grant ($1,000), totaling $29,000. Sheโ€™s also been accepted to Spring Hill College where she received an Ignatian Leader Award for $6,000, the University of South Alabama Jaguar Achievement Admission Scholarship award for $2,000, and the Miles College Presidential Scholarship Award for $74,600. She says โ€œI would like to shout-out my mama for helping me become the person I am today by pushing me to achieve my goals, Mr. Holder for being the best assistant principal and helping kids get on the right track, Mrs. Lewis for being the funniest teacher and also helping students achieve their goals, and Mr. Pearson for being the best band director and always pushing his students to better themselves and achieve their goals.โ€

What an awesome first day of the North West Huntsville Honor Band! The students are off to a great start and 3 of our own MSOS Seniors were awarded band scholarships to Miles College! Congratulations to Jemison High student Lorenzo-Rashad Stewart who won 1st place in the Fall 2021 State of Alabama Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Virtual Youth Talent Hunt Competition while representing the Nu Epsilon Chapter at Alabama A&M University. He took home a $750 grand prize and will go on to represent the state of Alabama in the 8th 7th District Meeting this Friday, April 8, in Atlanta Georgia. Way to go!
