The Sam Model United Nations (SMUN) Program is now accepting applications for the 2026–2027 academic year. Undergraduate students from across Sam Houston State University are encouraged to apply for the opportunity to represent SHSU at the 2027 National Model United Nations Conference in New York City.

Application Deadline: Friday, September 25, 2026, at 5:00 PM
NMUN-New York Conference B: March 29–April 2, 2027

Join us in June for the 2nd Annual Civil War Conference!

This past June, the inaugural Sam Houston State University Civil War Consortium Summer Symposium brought nationally recognized historians, students, alumni and educators together to explore the legacy of the American Revolution and Civil War.

Held at the Don E. & Katy Walker Education Center, the symposium, themed “Four Score and Seven Years Later: Civil War Americans and the Legacy of the Revolution,” featured discussions on nationalism, memory, African American participation, wartime atrocities and more.

Led by consortium co-directors Brian Matthew Jordan and Evan C. Rothera, the event extended learning beyond the classroom while creating opportunities for students and alumni to connect with leading scholars in the field.

The Civil War Consortium is the only academic center for the study of the Civil War west of the Mississippi River, hosting lectures, workshops, visiting historians and an emerging scholars program throughout the year. Learn more here: https://bit.ly/4xajVib
