This one felt good!

Friday night, our Hornets traveled to Belton and came home with a 30-27 win over Lake Belton.

Huntsville entered the game 0-2, while Lake Belton, a 6A program, came in 2-0. The Hornets were considered the underdogs, but they found a way to get the win and head into the bye week with some momentum.

And there were a lot of Hornets who made the trip.

The Hornet Military Marching Band, Grenadier Guard, cheer team, trainers, coaches and fans were all there. Friday was also the first road trip for our newly formed Buzzy's Road Crew, a dedicated group of student fans who traveled to support their classmates.

They picked a good night for their first trip.

After the game, Coach Moebes talked to the team about confidence. He reminded them that confidence isn’t something someone else can give you. It comes from putting in the work, competing and starting to see the results.

Friday night was a good step in that direction.

One thing we also appreciate about our football program happens after every game. Win or lose, our team goes to the home side of the field and stands respectfully while the opposing school plays its school song.

We did it after the first two losses, and we did it again Friday night after the win.

The Hornets now head into a bye week before returning home September 25 for Homecoming against Spring Woods and the start of district play.

There is still a lot of football ahead, and getting that first win sure feels good.

We can always count on our Huntsville High School Criminal Justice teachers to make September 11 a meaningful day of remembrance and learning for their students.

Twenty-five years later, they continue to help a new generation understand the lives lost, the sacrifices made, and the courage shown by first responders and ordinary citizens that day.

We’re proud of the thoughtful ways our students honored their memory.

There’s something incredibly satisfying about learning how something works.

You look at a map grid. You find the letter running along the side. You find the number across the top or bottom. Then you match them up—and suddenly, you know how to locate exactly what you’re looking for.

We were visiting Ms. Lambert’s fourth grade class and got to see that moment of learning in action.

And the remarkable thing is, moments like this are happening in classrooms all across Huntsville ISD every single day.

We don’t always stop to share them. Sometimes we don’t even think much about them because, in a school, learning “just is.”

But it’s worth noticing.

A student understands something today that they didn’t understand yesterday. A new skill clicks. The world makes a little more sense.

That’s a pretty remarkable thing.

But our players kept competing and found the end zone again in the fourth quarter. The outcome may have been decided, but they hadn’t given up. That matters.

After the game, Coach Moebes talked to his players about getting on the same page. Maybe that’s one of the most valuable things sports can teach us: how to face disappointment, learn what we can from it, shake it off and move forward—together.

And even on a difficult night, there was something good in seeing our community at its best—hearing the Hornet Military Marching Band, watching our cheerleaders and Grenadier Guard perform, and seeing the stands filled with people who showed up for our students.

District play hasn’t begun, and the rest of this season is still unwritten. Now comes the response.
