Greetings Alabama Cycling Advocates!
Each year, the League of American Bicyclists (LAB) hosts a National Bike Summit (NBS) in Washington DC.
The NBS hosts bike rides, plenaries, mobile workshops and informative sessions on many topics, as well as a hill walk communicate with Congressional offices.
AlaBike would like to find folks from all seven Congressional districts to attend the 2026 NBS in Washington DC and we have set aside a monetary stipend to encourage folks to register.
When constituents visit, there is always more impact to the message.
I have been to the NBS many times and I always learn something and have a blast in Wash DC. You can ride anywhere there and there is so much to see and do.
Early registration ends Jan 31, so if interested, please contact your AL state coordinator, Jamie Miernik, ASAP. Let's make an impact this year and let Congress know that cyclists in Alabama demand better, safer facilities. The NBS experience will be worth it for any cycling advocate!

Although traditional bikes still dominate, e-bikes are steadily gaining ground. In the U.S., cycling is about both leisure and transport: nearly half of riders cycle mainly for recreation, while just over half use their bikes for commuting or running errands.
Let's take a closer look at the people behind this trend: the American cycling community!

The City of London is pedaling into the future with record-breaking momentum:
π Cycling up 57% since 2022
π²π² Nearly twice as many bikes as cars on city streets

If only the US could be so intentional!
Through design, the Dutch made the cycle lanes a priority β visually and physically.
Bicycle underpasses are an essential part of Dutch cycling infrastructure; built below busy arterials and railways to improve safety and flow of traffic.
