✨SAE Spotlight✨

Today’s SAE spotlight is Trevina Anderson. Trevina will be a Junior and will be serving as our Reporter for the upcoming school year. Trevina’s SAE consists of a diversified operation of goats, rabbits, and poultry. Trevina has been working to build her registered herd of Newbian goats as well as her show rabbits that consist of Holland Lops and Netherlands. She has recently expanded her poultry operation to include hatching eggs of chickens, ducks, geese, and turkeys. Also be on the lookout of several goats milk products that she will have available in the future!

✨SAE Spotlight✨

Today’s SAE spotlight is Sophie Winkler. Sophie is a sophomore and Vice President of Westran FFA. Sophie’s SAE consists of raising and showing sheep. Sophie has roughly 20 head of Southdown and Dorset sheep. She puts in hours of work working with her sheep, managing breeding decisions, and determining the best prospects for her showing career. Sophie has had some great success this year and we look forward to seeing what she does at the County, District, and State Fair this year. If you are around, come out and support her!

We have made it back home and finally have time to share results. Students finished 13th place in chicken and reserve grand champion in ribs out of the top 100 teams in the nation. They also had some strong finishes in their other categories. Congratulations to this group!

Today Westran FFA BBQ competed at The Slab National HS BBQ Competition in The Colony, Texas against the top 100 schools in the nation. To say these kids have worked hard would be an understatement. High School BBQ is a science, an art, and most importantly a test of mental toughness.

These students have spent countless hours improving their skills, experimenting with flavors and techniques, and learning the timing of their cooks. Today they spent 12 hours in the heat preparing and cooking 6 turn in categories to be judged.

Tomorrow is the big day when they will find out their placings. We are extremely proud of their work this season.

✨SAE Spotlight✨

Today’s SAE spotlight is upcoming Senior Kaylen Johnson. Kaylen’s SAE mainly consists of a placement experience through Reynolds Herefords where she is involved in all aspects of breeding, raising, and marketing registered and commercial cattle. Through this experience she also works for Dusk to Dawn Branding where she edits videos, and travels to take pictures for various clients. Kaylen also has a small herd of her own that she plans to expand upon in the future.
