Last week, our College of Education students traveled to Washington, D.C. to engage directly with federal policymakers.

They shared their perspectives and experiences while advocating for policies that strengthen and support the educator workforce nationwide. We are proud to see our students contributing to meaningful conversations that will help shape the future of education.

Way to go, Alexis!! 🤩🧡

The College of Education at Sam Houston State University is celebrating a historic achievement by student Alexis Argueta, an English and education double major who became the first student to represent the university at the state level during the Texas Association of Future Educators’ annual meeting. She later earned third place nationally in the children’s literature competition at the 41st Annual Teach Tomorrow event.

Her book, “Miles and the Magic of Words: Penny the Pencil and Eddie the Eraser to the Rescue!,” was written and illustrated by Argueta to inspire creativity, confidence and curiosity in young learners. Designed for a third-grade audience, the story highlights teamwork, self-expression and problem-solving through engaging characters and thoughtful literacy strategies.

Argueta, who also serves as the community outreach officer for SHSU’s TAFE chapter, said the experience reinforced the importance of paving the way for future Bearkats while continuing to create meaningful impact through education. Read more here: https://bit.ly/42JmxqJ

All of Sam Houston State University's colleges are represented by these phenomenal Academic Community Engagement (ACE) College Coordinators!

ACE Coordinators are selected by college deans and work with CCE staff to develop and promote ACE courses and events. As the contact point for ACE courses within their colleges, this group provides leadership and support for faculty.

We look forward to welcoming them (and their fantastic ideas) back in the fall!
