Meet Ms. Wichmann!

Ms. Wichmann, along with her husband, Coach Juan Pablo, and son, Nico, is thrilled to call WCDS home! Moving to Wakefield from Charlottesville, Virginia, where she taught Spanish at The Peabody School for several years, Ms. Wichmann is excited to bring her passion for the Spanish language and culture to our students.

WCDS NEW TEACHER

Meet Mrs. Serrano Liles!

Gabriela Serrano Liles is excited to join the Wakefield Country Day school community as the lower school Spanish teacher. She is a proud Wakefield parent of Lucia (grade 8) and Javier (grade 5). Originally from El Salvador, Gabriela is a native Spanish speaker who is passionate about helping children develop confidence and a love for the language. Her approach to teaching focuses on immersion and learning naturally through conversation, games, movement, music, and hands-on activities. She hopes to create a classroom where students feel comfortable trying new words, making mistakes, and using Spanish in practical and meaningful ways. She has a BA in International Studies and Sociology and a minor in Business from the University of Oregon. She has over 10 years of experience working in early childhood settings, training caregivers at childcare centers and orphanages in Latin America.

Outside the classroom, Gabriela enjoys board games, hiking and tennis and spending time with her family. She looks forward to sharing not only the Spanish language with her students, but also the richness and diversity of Spanish-speaking cultures around the world.

Have a great afternoon,

Gabriela

WCDS FIRST DAY OF KINDERGARTEN!

A dress rehearsal makes everything perfect! Mrs. Brady’s kindergarten class had to wait a day for the official start of school this year. After fifteen years at WCDS, Mr. and Mrs. Brady’s daughter, Tana, WCDS Class of 2026, has arrived at her parents’ alma mater, Virginia Tech, where she will begin her first year this fall!

Good luck to all new students — whether beginning Kindergarten in Huntly, or starting freshman year in Blacksburg — may this be the beginning of an incredible journey filled with new adventures, lasting friendships, and exciting opportunities!
