Congratulations to Emily Huddleston and Kaleigh Welch on the publication of their research article, “Exploring the Quality of Life Impact of Driving for People with Aphasia,” in the Appalachian Student Healthcare Research Review! 🎉

Their research explored how driving impacts independence, confidence, and community participation for individuals with aphasia following a stroke. Throughout this project, Emily and Kaleigh had the opportunity to present their findings at CoRP, Marshall University College of Health Professions Research Day, and the West Virginia Speech-Language-Hearing Association Convention.

This publication represents an exciting milestone and highlights their dedication to advancing knowledge in the field of speech-language pathology. A special thank you to the participants who generously shared their experiences and made this research possible.

Join us in celebrating Emily and Kaleigh on this outstanding accomplishment! 💚🦬

🌍✈️ Student Spotlight: Abigail Patterson

Second-year graduate student Abigail Patterson recently had the opportunity to participate in a Therapy Abroad program in Bulgaria, where she provided language-focused intervention to clients ranging in age from 4 to 80 years old.

During her experience, Abigail worked in a children’s center, adult day center, and nursing home, collaborating with translators to deliver meaningful services across language and cultural differences. She adapted therapy techniques to meet the needs of individuals with a variety of diagnoses, including autism, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, aphasia, and more.

This unique international experience strengthened Abigail’s clinical flexibility, cultural awareness, and problem-solving skills while deepening her passion for serving diverse populations.

We are proud of Abigail for representing Marshall University Speech & Hearing Center and embracing opportunities to grow as a clinician and global citizen! 💚🤍
