🌟Legislative Update🌟

Last week during a committee meeting HB 4067 updated to include three other bills. HB 4067 is an important measure for child care that now includes:
✔️Ensuring that subsidy payments be made based on a child’s enrollment rather than attendance
✔️Ensuring that “day” means a child has attended a child care program for 4 hours or an afterschool program for 2.5 hours
✔️Ensuring that employees of child care programs working 32 or more hours a week are automatically eligible for child care subsidy regardless of family income
✔️Ensuring that a cost of care model is used to determine subsidy payments

Submit public comments on the House budget bill, HB 4027, and encourage lawmakers to prioritize funding for child care.

West Virginia hasn’t increased dedicated funding for child care in years. Funding has actually decreased by $8 million over the last 10 years.

Meanwhile, families are struggling to find child care, child care providers are closing their doors, and employers can’t find workers. This is not sustainable. Please take a few minutes today to make your voice heard.

The decrease in child care programs over the last 2 years, specifically family child care programs, is hitting working families hard. When programs close, parents miss work, cut hours, or leave jobs altogether because they don’t have safe, reliable care. That doesn’t just hurt families, it impacts businesses and our entire economy.

Child care is the workforce behind the workforce. When we lose programs, we all feel it.

Playmates will resurrect its teen center in a new building to be constructed in the Westmoreland neighborhood of Huntington.
