"Like an iceberg, the bulk of behavior’s “mass” is found below the surface; it is what gives rise to the part that is visible. Behavior is triggered from feelings, which stem from the more deeply rooted needs of a person. These are not needs like, “I need candy/ I need a new toy/ I need to play video games.” Basic human needs consist of things like autonomy, safety, security, trust, empathy, understanding, adequate sleep and nutrition, a sense of belonging and inclusion, competency, respect, and love."

Students that are registering for fall classes, please be aware that the student orientations can be found by searching the training calendar on WV STARS. The student orientations are not the same as the Employer Training that has an application on our website. The Employer Training is only for employers, supervisors, and directors of current ACDS students.

All employers, supervisors, and directors that have staff enrolling in the Fall 2026 semester of ACDS must complete a one hour training about the ACDS program. The training will explain the program's policies, procedures, and employer responsibilities. Participants cannot self-enroll for this training. To have it added to your WV STARS dashboard, fill out the brief application on the homepage of ACDS website, www.wvacds.org. Once we have received your application we will add it to your dashboard. This training will open June 1 and must be completed by August 17. Please contact the ACDS office with any questions.
