Congratulations to Eliana Smith, whose artwork was selected as a winner in the County Commissioners’ Association of West Virginia’s 2026 “Civics in Color” Art Contest!

The statewide contest invited middle school students to explore the role of local government by illustrating an activity, event, or place supported by their county commission.

Her winning piece will be featured in the CCAWV online Art Gallery and included in the association’s 2027 calendar alongside the other winning works.

We’re proud of Eliana for representing Covenant School and Cabell County and for using her creativity to engage thoughtfully with the community around her.

Congratulations to our High School Golf team on earning their first victory in program history yesterday! The Eagles picked up the win in their first regular-season match against Huntington High at Sugarwood Golf Club.

The day also included a memorable individual highlight: Ossie holed out from 120 yards!

We're proud of our golfers and coaches for a great start to the season and the first of many milestones ahead!

Several weeks ago, our seniors approached school administration with a simple idea: they wanted to serve breakfast to their classmates on the first day of school.

They gathered the supplies, planned the logistics, and arrived at the school two hours early—ready to welcome and serve their younger friends.

Their example reminded us of one of our school’s core values: Friendship.

In fact, one of the first things Jesus did for his friends after the resurrection was make them breakfast on the beach: “Jesus said to them, ‘Come and have breakfast.’ Now none of the disciples dared ask him, ‘Who are you?’ They knew it was the Lord. Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and so with the fish.” (John 21:12–13)

There is something beautifully ordinary about this picture of friendship: showing up, preparing a meal, and simply making a place for others.

We’re thankful for the thoughtful servant leadership of our seniors and for the example they’ve already set. We can’t wait to see the ways they continue to shape our school culture in their final year at Covenant School!

This morning, on the first day of a new school year, we paused to celebrate God’s faithfulness to Covenant School and to give thanks for all He has done throughout our school’s story.

With great joy, we welcomed our Upper School students into their new building, where classes are officially underway for the first time!

Joining us for the ribbon-cutting ceremony were members of the Class of 2027, our Board of Directors, project committees, and Head of School Dr. Craig Hefner, who had the honor of cutting the ribbon and officially opening the building to our students and families.

This moment belongs to so many. We are grateful for those who first stepped out in faith to begin Covenant School in 1995, for the generations of families, faculty, staff, and friends who have carried its mission forward, and for those who have worked, prayed, given, and served so generously over these past several years to make this new chapter possible.

And the story continues! Our next step is to bring our Lower School students home to this campus, reuniting our entire Covenant community together once again. We move forward with the same faith and hope that have carried us this far, trusting God for what is still to come.

Onward and to God be the glory!

This year’s new faculty includes experienced classroom teachers, a former professional athlete, a published theologian, an award-winning journalist, and a scientist who has led engineering labs, makerspaces, and student travel experiences around the world. Their backgrounds reflect the richness and breadth of a Covenant education: one that seeks to cultivate wisdom, virtue, curiosity, and joyful learning in every student.

Beyond their credentials and accomplishments, each of these new staff members brings a deep love for students and a sincere desire to invest in the life of our community. They are active in their churches, passionate about mentoring young people, and eager to partner with families in the formation of students who love what is true, good, and beautiful.

We are excited for the ways their gifts, experiences, and faith will strengthen and enrich Covenant School in the years ahead.

All of our administrators, teachers, and staff came back to school on Monday and have spent the week preparing for the new school year.

We gathered this week for our annual Faculty Symposium, centered on the theme "The Process of Progress." Inspired by The Pilgrim's Progress, we spent the week reflecting on a simple but profound truth: meaningful progress isn't measured by speed or size, but by faithfulness. Through plenary sessions, workshops, departmental collaboration, and time together as colleagues, we explored what it means to grow as a community committed to forming students in truth, goodness, and beauty.

As Covenant continues to expand across two campuses and welcome new faculty and families, we're grateful for the opportunity to strengthen the habits, practices, and relationships that will sustain our mission for years to come.

Thank you to every faculty and staff member who invested their time, wisdom, and energy into making this week a meaningful beginning to the school year. We leave encouraged, better equipped, and excited for the journey ahead.

It’s hard to believe, but we are now exactly one week away from Student Orientation, scheduled for Monday, August 10.

This is your time to meet your child's teachers, receive student schedules and classroom information, and to get set for a successful first day of classes on Wednesday, August 12!

Across both of our campuses, we're putting the finishing touches on our preparations for the a new school year.

This year is sure to be one of the most significant in Covenant School's history. From the opening of our Upper School campus to the continued growth of our Lower School, we are grateful for the many ways God has provided and excited for all that lies ahead.

As we prepare for another year together, we encourage you to begin praying with your children for the year ahead—for their teachers, classmates, friendships, and the opportunities they will have to grow in wisdom, virtue, and the love of learning.

Following an extensive review process, we’re excited to announce that we have earned full accreditation from the Society for Classical Learning (SCL), affirming our commitment to faithful classical Christian education and recognizing the incredible work of our faculty, staff, students, and families.

The visiting accreditation team affirmed the strength of our mission, our commitment to classical Christian education, and the culture of wisdom, virtue, and genuine Christian community that defines Covenant.

We’re deeply thankful to everyone who has invested in Covenant School over the years—our faculty, staff, parents, students, alumni, board members, donors, and supporters. This recognition belongs to our entire community.

Covenant School is excited to announce that it has officially earned accreditation through the Society for Classical Learning (SCL), a national organization dedicated to strengthening and supporting classical Christian education.

Last week, 15 Covenant School faculty and staff traveled to Texas for the Society for Classical Learning Summer Conference, joining around 1,500 educators from across the country to explore this year's theme: generosity in the classical Christian tradition.

Throughout the week, our team engaged with thoughtful discussions on how generosity reflects the very nature of God and shapes the work of Christian education. From classroom instruction and mentorship to hospitality and stewardship, the conference challenged us to consider how God's abundant love can be embodied in the daily rhythms of school life.

One lesson the conference did not prepare us for: patience in airport terminals. Our flight home was delayed... and delayed... and delayed. By the time we landed in Cincinnati, it was around 4:00 a.m. Judging by the before-and-after photos, the journey home may have been just as formative as the conference itself. Talk about a team-building exercise!

We were especially grateful to have three of our newest faculty members attend, providing an opportunity to learn, grow, and build relationships alongside colleagues before the start of the school year. We also got to attend a breakout session led by our very own Franklin Norton on cultivating a “generous presence” in our schools. Here's a sample of other breakout sessions our team attended:
