My goals and intentions for 2019 I set in the beginning of the year are purely mental. I have let go of beliefs of necessity and requirement to accomplish tasks both big and small. It has been a battle. It has ignited fires both internally and externally but most of all it has brought a lot of positive change. Change in productivity, in clarity and in my relationship with everything from my career to my wife. Though the battles and fires come with darkness, darkness must be present in order to see light.

Authenticity is invaluable; originality is non existent.
-Jim Jarmusch

Be a tree amongst trees. Not because they look cool, smell good and people like them but because of all their benifits and attributes to the world.

Redwoods capture more CO2 from vehicles and power plants than any other tree on the planet. They are extremely resistant to fire, rot and insects. Wild animals thrive in areas where redwoods grow for a variety of reasons.

In the yoga teaching world, I hear a lot of teachers regurgitating the same words they hear other teachers say. Not because they know what it means or know the effects it has on biomechanics but because it sounds good or cool to them.

I am all for stealing or borrowing cues, sayings or quotes. In fact, nothing is original. Of course we will repeat stuff that resonates, inspires or fuels us. But use the words with integrity. Know what you're saying and why.

Learning both yoga asana and philosophy has been the most consitant and empowering thing last 9 years of my life. Through the process, my wife, great friends and myself have built an advanced 300hr ytt. It's scheduled to start Jan. 4, 2019. It's an advanced training not only because we dive deeper into asana but dive deeper into YOUR path as a yoga teacher. You'll refine you're skills and unlock wisdom within. The full 500hr ytt starts in a couple weeks Aug. 3. Theirs never been a better time than now. Sign up for training link in bio.

Just spent the weekend cooling off in the desert. No joke, coming home yesterday, it was warmer in Long Beach than it was in Joshua Tree.

First camping trip to the desert, along with first boys trip in a long time and first camp of the year. I was due for it and it did not let down. I met some amazing individuals with beautiful souls that I could now call great friends.

I have never had a great relationship with the desert. In fact, my only experiences were from my childhood going to see family in which we stayed inside in the a/c. The intensity of all things from here are tremendous. The weather alone went from hot baking sun, we had cooling winds to dust devils, light drizzle and a few miles down the road a flash flood. Spending only 2 days here gave me a greater understanding of how all things can be beautiful when you allow yourself to be vulnerable to things you might have written off as unpleasant. It's one of yogas translation for life.
That being said, although not for the faint hearted, the desert is magical and I will be back to desert this summer or early fall. Thanks Joshua Tree for showing some of your beauty and for bringing such a wonderful crew together creating everlasting memories.

Same action, different planes.

This "flow" is designed to help create neural pathways in the brain to fire the same muscles in different planes of gravity and anatomical planes. By holding the block so long you recruit fast twitch muscle fibers in the hamstrings and the small pumps build glute strength.

Hip extension is easiest when bearing weight but is easily forgotten when not loaded with weight. By working the glute with the pumps you will work towards creating hip extention properly, even when you aren't bearing weight.

Place a foam block between the back of the heel and the gluteal crease, point to toes to increase the engagement of the hamstring, and move into different planes taking your hip in extention.

Do 1-3 times on each side, without alternating if you can. This video has been sped up 4x, try to work slow! Have fun. Be safe. Make sure you're hydrated, because cramps happen. Great for weak glutes/hammies, hamstring recovery, hip extensions or just part of your practice.

Welcome to ! We'll be posting detailed breakdowns on alignment in foundational yoga poses. This week we're exploring… Utthita Parsvakonasana also known as Extended Side Angle Pose. Here we have yoga instructor, demonstrating.

How to Utthita Parsvakonasana:
1️⃣ Back foot turned in slightly, front foot forward 90 degrees. Front heel to back arch alignment.
2️⃣ Root down firmly through the outside edge of the back foot.
3️⃣ Top hip opens out, work to keep it from collapsing inwards.
4️⃣ Top side body lifts towards the ceiling.
5️⃣ Try not to let the front knee collapse inward, draw the knee into the bottom arm.
6️⃣ Gaze up towards the ceiling.
7️⃣ Front palm faces down.
8️⃣ Work to create one long, strong, engaged line from the back foot through the crown of the head and top arm.

We are so excited to start to offer Iyengar Yoga at Kaya Yoga Remedy. Starting in October we will have 2 classes a week taught by Suzanne Simon. It is something that we have wanted for long time. To have our lovely space be a catalyst for deeper learning, to offer something with more depth and to facilitate true transformation not only on the external but deep inside. We have given our most to supply that thus far and look forward to continue to grow together as a community. You guys all rock! Thank you. 😎😆😍
