Proving coercive control in family court is less about one dramatic incident and more about showing a sustained pattern of domination. Courts are trained to look for behavioral systems, not just bruises.

A divorce coach helps you think and act better.
A divorce lawyer helps you file, argue, and protect legally.

1️⃣ Collect your financial docs (tax returns, pay stubs, bank statements, loan balances) and prepare emergency funds. How will you pay bills and expenses until support orders are made?
2️⃣ Screenshot your credit report. You’d be shocked how many people forget this.
3️⃣ Know your goals: custody, support, financial stability, boundaries.
4️⃣ Start the preparing a parenting calendar now.
5️⃣ Protect your peace by unfollowing accounts that trigger fear or confusion. Too much input can lead to faulty output.

Filing without preparation is like walking into court blindfolded. You don’t have to be a lawyer to prep like a lawyer. You deserve clarity and control.

1️⃣ It’s not Judge Judy.
No dramatic gavel banging, more like a crowded waiting room and a lot of “please be seated.”

2️⃣ You might have to wait… a while.
Your hearing might be scheduled for 8:30 a.m., but you could be called hours later. Bring snacks, water, and chargers.

3️⃣ Everyone’s business is public.
Cases are called in open court. That means other people can hear your case (and you’ll probably hear theirs).

4️⃣ Dress like you respect the process.
No jeans with holes, no hats, no “Don’t Talk to Me” t-shirts. First impressions matter.

5️⃣ Your paperwork is everything.
If it’s not filed, served, and in the judge’s hands, it basically doesn’t exist.

Pro Tip: Be polite to the courtroom clerk, they are the gatekeepers to the judge.
