Chesapeake Conservancy is looking to fill their annual Americorps Volunteer Coordinator position. It runs from August 2024-August 2025 through Susquehanna Americorps. The job description is attached and the site to apply is linked below.

Previously, this position has been filled by recent graduates or young professionals looking to enter the conservation/restoration field.

The Executive Director will be joining the Blue Ridge PRISM team at a very exciting and pivotal time in the organization’s work and development. A strong candidate will bring to this role proven organizational leadership skills, a demonstrated ability to influence without authority (for example, partner organizations and volunteers), significant supervisory experience, the ability to coordinate simultaneous tasks and projects, and excellent public speaking skills. This is a full-time position at 40 hours per week.

Bat Research in Borneo (for grad students)

[There are] 11 slots available in NSF-sponsored International Research Experience "Bioinspired Autonomy in Natural Environments" in the summer of 2024 (May 20 - Aug 18), but only a few candidates have applied so far. We start in Blacksburg VA (preparation week), then Brunei (main part of stay), as well as KAIST in South Korea and the National University of Singapore. The research capitalizes on the biodiversity of Borneo/Brunei environment, i.e., on how bats use their biosonar sensing and flapping-flight mobility to navigate complex tropical vegetation, which translates results into exciting engineering applications. The only technical prerequisite here is the STEM study.



The eligibility requirements for the program are US citizenship/permanent residency and enrollment in a STEM graduate program at a US university. Students receive a $5,000 stipend, international travel (including roundtrip airfare, airport transportation, visa fee and international health insurance), and all lodging during the program.

PhD and MS Opportunities in Forest Ecological Genetics – Spring 2024

The Leites Lab at Penn State is looking for a PhD or MS student interested in forest ecological genetics and ready to start the program in January 2024. The student will join a multi-institutional team studying ecological genetics of forest tree species, modeling population responses to climate in tree species native to the eastern US, and delineating climate-smart seed sourcing strategies for resilient forests. The student will have the opportunity to work in collaboration with our national and international colleagues, and with federal and state agencies.

The successful candidate should have completed a MS or BS in forest resources/forest ecology or related subjects, have strong quantitative skills, be highly motivated, and committed to an inclusive and supportive environment.
