It was a wonderful week! We couldn't have had better weather for the Huntingdon County Fair, and we welcomed many visitors young and old. Alas, it's time to start putting equipment away. Some of our volunteers spent the afternoon tidying up. We're still going to be open on Thursdays, and on other select days, but for now, we're enjoying a little time off after a long and memorable week!

Congratulations to Trever Duvall of Shirleysburg whose 1951 Farmall M took Grand Champion honors in the Antique Equipment department, and Mike Mowrer of Petersburg whose 1955 John Deere 80 Diesel took Reserve Champion! They're beautiful workhorses that have been lovingly preserved by thoughtful owners. It's been a great week at the Huntingdon County Fair !

It's 1932, and the Great Depression is in full swing. The trusty McCormick-Deering 10-20 is in the field plowing, but the hogs and chickens need fed -- and they don't like to eat their corn still on-the-cob! What to do? Attach the belt pulley to the Model A, jack it up, put the belt on, put it in gear, and start grinding away! This demo and plenty more have been happening all week at the Huntingdon County Fair!

Tuesday of the Huntingdon County Fair we processed ear corn! First, we shelled the corn off the cob -- just like we eat sweet corn! (Except this corn is fully matured by the time it is picked, then dry when we shell it.) Then, we ground the kernels of corn, making it more digestible for pigs and poultry. Later in the week, we'll crush the cobs up, too. Keep an eye on things up at the Farm Museum -- there's always something happening to showcase our county's rural heritage!

We're remembering and missing long-time museum co-curator (and Huntingdon County Fair board member) Betty Norris this week. Betty's leadership helped to develop the museum we know today, managing the acquisition and display of thousands of artifacts as we filled and expanded buildings. Our thanks to her family for the floral tribute, and for loaning us the use of a wonderful woman with a keen sense of humor, a passion for our heritage, and a heart of gold.
