Primal Reflex Release Technique

Primal Reflex Release Technique

A breakthrough MSK approach, proven effective in resetting protective reflexes for rapid pain relief. How can it be so successful?

The Primal Reflex Release Technique™ (PRRT, pronounced "pert") is a manual-therapy approach for evaluating and relieving musculoskeletal pain. PRRT is often able to accomplish in just seconds what joint mobilization and manipulation, trigger point therapy, and soft tissue and myofascial release can do over time. PRRT has been found effective in more than 80% of patients with painful conditions. PR

PRRT™ Master Instructor Carl Christie highlights common, yet often missed, restrictions in the first and second ribs. Discover why assessing rib mobility is crucial for neck, shoulder, and upper extremity complaints, given the close relationship with neurovascular structures. Learn how PRRT™ identifies these overlooked contributors to dysfunction, offering a simpler approach than surgery for many arm-related symptoms. Explore this vital clinical reasoning at theprrt.com.

James Pavlov, LMT, shares how PRRT™ transformed his approach to chronic pain. Discover how looking beyond local symptoms to the nervous system and holding patterns can unlock stubborn, long-standing issues previously resistant to manual therapy.

Welcome to Clinical Challenge Part 2! Let's explore this case from a neuromuscular and clinical reasoning perspective. Notice how subtle activation and quick input create significant changes in movement. Which agonist muscles in the anterior chain might facilitate inhibition around the C/T junction? Hint: Think anterior chain. Understand reciprocal inhibition simply. This relies on timing and response, not force. Comment with your reasoning or guesses on indirect influences! If enough correct answers, we'll post the full clip. Learn more about PRRT training at theprrt.com.

PRRT™ Practitioner James Pavlov, LMT, shares his experience after a PRRT session. Even while desensitized to discomfort, he noted significant referred sensations during palpation. Post-treatment, these referral patterns noticeably shifted. This highlights PRRT’s focus on reassessment and real-time patient feedback, revealing subtle yet meaningful changes in nervous system responsiveness. Learn more about PRRT training at theprrt.com.

PRRT™ Master Instructor Carl Christie reveals the hyoid bone's singular nature: it's the only bone in the body without a direct joint connection. Supported solely by muscular and fascial networks, its stability hinges on surrounding tension. Understanding this dynamic interplay offers clinicians a fresh perspective on neck and fascial tension patterns. Discover how PRRT™ integrates these connections. Learn more at theprrt.com.

When one muscle fires, another might need to relax. This PRRT™ clip shows pec major activation as part of a neurological strategy. Can you guess what's being indirectly influenced? Think beyond the obvious. Hint: watch where PRRT™ Master Instructor Ben Pero palpates at the end of the clip. Learn more about PRRT training at theprrt.com

Engage your clinical reasoning! When one muscle powerfully activates, another might need to relax. This demonstration highlights reciprocal inhibition, showing how activating pec major can influence other neuromuscular pathways. Think beyond the obvious – what's being indirectly targeted here?

Hint: watch where PRRT™ Master Instructor Ben Pero palpates at the end of the clip.

PRRT™ Master Instructor Carl Christie discusses the re**us capitis posterior minor, a small suboccipital muscle connected to the dura through the myodural bridge. In PRRT™, clinicians assess how areas like this may relate to broader tension and movement patterns rather than focusing only on the location of symptoms. This short clip is part of a larger clinical discussion on system-level assessment and response. Learn more at theprrt.com.

That’s a wrap on the Charlotte PRRT™ Level 1 & 2 Intensive.

Huge thank you to this incredible group of clinicians for bringing so much energy, curiosity, and willingness to learn over the past 3 days.

One of the best parts of PRRT™ is watching concepts start to click in real time as students sharpen their assessment skills, improve clinical decision-making, and begin seeing meaningful changes on the tables.

We’re excited to see where each of you takes this work next and how you continue integrating it into your own approach and practice.

Now it’s time to keep testing, learning, and growing. 👊

End of Day 1 at the Charlotte PRRT™ Combined Intensive.

I asked two of our Master Instructors what stood out most from the first day.

Carl talked about one of the best parts of PRRT™:
Not just the techniques, but the hungry minds in the room sharing ideas, learning from each other, and finding ways to integrate the system into their own clinical approach.

Ben shared one of the biggest “aha” moments from the day:
Students working through even the foundational primals were asking,
“Am I supposed to feel this relaxed?”

Some were nearly falling asleep on the table.

That immediate shift and feedback is what makes these live experiences so powerful.

We still have 2 more days to go in Charlotte, and we’re excited to share more behind-the-scenes moments soon.
