The projects at our Hopewell’s Capstone Showcase were amazing but the alumni panel was just as impactful.
Over 100 Hopewell engineering and manufacturing students heard directly from alumni about their journey as they are now attending North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, UNC Charlotte College of Engineering, and North Carolina State University.
What stood out to me most was realizing how much these former students helped build the foundation and culture of Hopewell’s program. Even after their own finals, work, and busy schedules, they still came back to invest in the next generation. Continuously raising the bar.
Beyond thankful to Neto Barnabas, Kayla Pham, Rachel Heggie, Natalie Morales, James Karwowski-Mulready, Kamsochukwu Barnabas, Lauryn Bess for coming back and continuing to pour into the students following behind you.
The industry is lucky to have people like you in it!

BACK TO BACK Champions.
Hopewell’s ACE team won the 2026 ACE Cup for best overall design at the ACE Charlotte Banquet. Join us in congratulating every student who made this happen.
A special callout to our presenters Deuel Rice ’26, Evan Jenkins ’27, Nick Walck ’27, and Aiden Bal ’26 - and to Matthew Pharr ’26 for Q&A support.
To lead mentors Enya and Darik Schumacher - 15 years of supporting Hopewell students. This win is a direct reflection of everything you have poured into this program. Thank you.

Front page famous.
Today our students saw their work featured on the front page of the Lake Norman Citizen- and the excitement says it all.
Huge thank you to the parents and community supporters who helped make this possible!
Special thanks to Lake Norman Publications and Lindsay Krone for taking the time to highlight what these young professionals have accomplished.

What happens when students stop learning about manufacturing-and start operating like a company?
Today, thanks to Alro Steel, our Hopewell students lived exactly that. In a Shark Tank–style experience, teams pitched and defended real designs created in our lab, worked under constraints like cost and waste, and watched their parts manufactured on industrial machines.
Across all teams, the thinking was next level—students brought material samples, built cost-benefit tools for live Q&A, and approached the challenge from completely different perspectives. Engineering, manufacturing, business, and problem-solving all came together in real time.
Congratulations to Titan Manufacturing-Madeline Tymko and Abigail Pape-for their winning design, strong presentation, and powerful message advocating for more women in STEM.
Huge shoutout to every student who competed and showed up ready to think, design, and defend their work:
Aiden Blank
Jason Flores
Jaden Kenly
Sean Knight
Jonathan Maye
Diego Ordonez
Abigail Pape
Madeline Tymko
And a massive thank you to the Alro Steel team-Ty Gruver and Stacy Green-for making this an authentic, hands-on experience students simply can’t recreate in a classroom.
Real industry. Real constraints. Real learning.
