Mr. Brian, Aubrey’s Dad, joined us in Kindergarten to discuss his job as an ‘Environmental Scientist’ 🪨 🌍

Thank you, Mr. Brian, for making us literature, showing your artifacts, speaking on your job, and facilitating some home-to-school connections that our students can’t stop talking about!

Our students deserve beautiful spaces—especially the shared spaces where so much of childhood happens together.

This spring, we’re refreshing every hallway throughout Reggio & Co.!

These halls will hold first-day nerves- hand-and-hand with you. They will welcome new families into our story. They will carry the loud Trick-or-Treat parades and quiet walks for whoever needs a moment. They will be the homes to our projects, muddy rain boots, and winter coats hanging to dry. They are where we do our daily hellos and where we line up for graduation.

Long after the paint dries, these walls will witness thousands of ordinary moments that become the most meaningful ones to our community.

Can you guess which color will be joining us at school for our next chapter?

design: “loop-de-loop obstacle course, it’s pretty hard to complete.” (Callan, 4yrs)

one light. one.

one simple, new addition to inspire familiar thinking in a new way- and we have a whole new plot to follow in PREK 3B today.

“What’s this one?” 🔧

-

As children in classroom PREK1B interact with real tools, they are exploring their own competence.

Naming the objects and experimenting with them allows children to test their growing capabilities in meaningful ways.

“It’s so hard to take off” (child 2yrs) as she placed the bracket on a nail and tried to remove it.

Did you know👇🏽

Research suggests it can take up to 45 minutes for children to reach deep, meaningful play.

That means the environment must allow for long stretches of uninterrupted exploration.

As curators of the classroom, our role is to design spaces and provide materials that invite children to return, test ideas, and build upon their evolving theories about the world.

Think about this: How deeply could you learn anything new if someone asked you to switch tasks every 15 minutes?

Slow - these - classrooms - down.
Let these minds build!

🧶🪺Kindergarten students began reconstructing the concept of “nest” through their own language of materials.

In Reggio practice, children often:
1. Observe a phenomenon
2. Form ideas about it
3. Attempt to represent or recreate it

Child “W” (2yrs): That’s “my W” [in the word “Welcome”displayed on the wall]

He looked up at the other wall labeled “The 100 Languages of Children”, asking, “Where is my W?”

Noticing there was no “W”, he climbed onto the cots and looked at the wall documentation, searching the text until he found “his W.”

He then found “his W” within the blocks on the floor before proceeding to build with them.

📝If we were to study this?

This child is building on his theories of Identity Representation: I exist in the environment through symbols.
