Here is a great example why additional space is needed to better equip our teachers for these types of hands on learning experiences.

The Animal Science class dissected a ruminant (cow) digestive tract today to examine the inner structures and functions. Students were able to identify each organ and discuss the function, see the insides of the structures and examine the effects of digestion on the feedstuffs as it passes through the digestive system. They were able to also look at the liver, heart, and lungs as well.

This dissection was completed outside due to lack of space. A dedicated animal science lab would allow for ventilation, drainage, and cleanup of the dissection area. If we had a lab space like this, we would definitely be dissecting more often!

The Humphrey FFA Chapter is thriving & growing. Our Ag classes are very successful & students want to access them. Space is the issue & we need more room.

With additional room, we can hire another CTE teacher, allowing for more courses & the ability for ALL students from HPS, Archangels & Lindsay Academy to access these courses. By adding a CTE teacher, Lindsay Academy would be able to participate in the Humphrey FFA program.

Currently, the greenhouse is small, on wheels, with artificial lighting. More space = a larger permanent heated greenhouse offering a wider variety of plants to enhance hands-on learning. This would allow for a focus on agronomy, horticulture & agriscience.

Let’s support the growing Ag & FFA programs by giving all students within our district the ability to access & enhance the course offerings.
