It starts with a spark. 🔥

A moment of curiosity, simple materials, an idea and suddenly imagination takes over. (In this moment of wonder, it looked like creating simple machines to rescue our stuffies.) 🙂

3D Rainbows 🌈

They’ve been asking to try this all year and we finally did!

We didn’t have time to use an actual 3D printer, so we made our own version instead, using colored sand, glue, and plastic cups to build something they could see and hold.

A simple idea and a really special way to wrap up our weather study.

Can you make a tornado? 🌪️

Through hands-on exploration, learners created a tornado in a jar, observing how movement, speed, and rotation work together to form a spinning column.

By slowing down to watch closely, learners began to connect what they created in the jar to how powerful storms form in the world around us.

Because learning starts with a question—and grows through experience. ✨

What happens when rain falls? 🌧️

We explored it by dropping water from different heights and onto different surfaces.

Learners noticed how it splashed, spread, or soaked in and how higher drops created bigger impacts.

Small drops felt like a drizzle. Bigger, faster drops felt more like a storm.

What do you notice when the water hits the surface?
How does it change when you drop it higher up?
What makes a bigger splash? Why?
What makes rain heavier in real life?

Because learning starts with a question, and grows through experience. ✨

Pathfinders is a weekly homeschool community for K–3 learners rooted in curiosity, challenge, and discovery.

It looks like learners asking questions, testing ideas, building solutions, and taking their learning into the real world.

We prioritize building confident, curious learners who know how to learn.

Curiosity in the clouds ☁️

Pathfinders explored clouds through science, art, and observation this week.

From forming clouds in a jar and watching heavy rain fall, to creating cloud paint and collages to represent different types, learners experienced clouds in multiple ways.

We then brought that learning outside! We used our cloud viewers to slow down, look up, and make sense of the sky around us. 🌤️⛅️🌥️

🚨 Homeschoolers! Public school science teachers! Weather junkies! 🚨

We kick off this week's Weather101 lineup with The Basics of NWS. Can't make any of our other classes? This is the one to see. We wrap up the week talking about The Radar.

So much of what we’re building at Wunder Institute is possible because of the people around us. 🥰

We’re incredibly grateful to Hummelstown UCC for their support, generosity, and belief in this work.
Yesterday, we walked into our space to find new signs thoughtfully put up. It was such a kind and meaningful surprise that made our space feel even more like home.

It truly means more than we can say. 💛

What are clouds made of? ☁️

Using a cloud-in-a-jar experiment, today we introduced tiny particles (from a blown-out match) and observed how water v***r cooled and condensed onto them, forming a cloud right in front of us!

Through questioning, testing, and real-world exploration, we turned a big idea into something we could see and understand.

What is temperature? 🌡️

The first question in our Weather Watchers session.

We use guiding questions to shape our learning, leading us to explore and discover together.

We built our own thermometers using glass bottles and watched temperature change right in front of us.
