🐴 Cola for a horse with a gastric impaction? It sounds unusual — but researchers are taking a closer look.
A recent review of 125 horses with gastric impactions found that horses treated with cola had a higher survival rate than those that did not receive it — 82.8% compared with 35.8%.
The study does not prove that cola caused the difference, but it’s an interesting look at an unusual approach that equine veterinarians have been using in some difficult cases.
And just to be clear, this involved veterinary treatment through a nasogastric tube — this isn't a recommendation to give a horse cola on your own.
We thought this was an interesting piece of equine research worth sharing. 🐎
