💜🩵 STRONGER TOGETHER FOR MENTAL HEALTH 🩵💜
September is Su***de Prevention Awareness Month—a time to remember those we have lost, support those who are struggling, and remind one another that hope and help are available.

The numbers remind us why these conversations matter. In 2023, 49,316 people in the United States died by su***de—about one person every 11 minutes. Su***de was also the second-leading cause of death for Americans ages 10–34. Rural communities are among the populations experiencing higher-than-average su***de rates.

There is also reason for hope here at home: CDC data found that Iowa was one of only four states whose su***de rate significantly decreased from 2022 to 2023. That progress matters—but our work isn't finished.

Throughout September, we encourage our community to make su***de prevention something we do together:
💜 Talk. Normalize conversations about mental health, depression, loneliness, and su***de.
🩵 Listen. Sometimes helping begins with being willing to sit with someone and hear what they're experiencing.
💜 Check in. Send the text. Make the call. Ask the second question when someone says, “I'm fine.”
🩵 Learn the warning signs. Knowing when someone's behavior has changed—and knowing where to turn—can help connect someone with support sooner.
💜 Share resources. Every time we share 988 or mental-health information, we help make asking for help more normal and accessible.
🩵 Create connection. Belonging, safety, dignity, and hope are protective factors against su***de.

And perhaps most importantly: don't assume someone else will reach out. Be the person who does.

📞 Call or text 988 for the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.
If you're concerned about someone, you can also contact 988 for guidance and support.

This September, let's fill our schools, workplaces, families, organizations, and communities with conversations that remind people:
You matter. You belong here. Your story isn't over.
💜🩵 Together, we can build a healthier, more connected, and stronger Iowa.

Someone needs to hear this today. ❤️ What if the most powerful su***de prevention tool isn't technology, but human connection?
That's the message CEO Dr. Anthony Estreet, PhD, MBA, LCSW-C, shared in a Forbes Health feature on su***de prevention. Su***de’s impact reaches is devastating. “Families are left with profound grief, guilt and often silence,” he says. “Communities lose leaders, caregivers and loved ones.” While AI can help connect people with information and crisis resources, it can never replace the empathy, compassion, and clinical judgment of trained mental health professionals.

There is nothing we love more than promoting the well-being of children and their families. Dolly was a shining example (in rhinestones) of being kind, being curious, and a true disciple of love. Her Imagination Library has impacted millions of children. We hope you step forward today in supporting her endeavors to provide children with opportunities to read.

What a legacy Dolly left. ❤️

"If you see someone without a smile today, give 'em yours." -Dolly

💗 A CUP OF AMBITION, IN HONOR OF DOLLY 💗
Today, the world lost a true icon. Dolly Parton gave us unforgettable music, plenty of sparkle, and a whole lot of heart—but perhaps one of her greatest legacies is the love of reading she gave to millions of children through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. 📚
Tomorrow, we want to raise our cups of ambition in her honor. ☕️✨
From 9 AM–5 PM, a portion of ALL SALES at Caribbean Coffeehouse will be donated to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, helping continue the work that meant so much to Dolly—putting books into the hands of children and encouraging a lifelong love of reading.
So stop in, grab your coffee, lunch, sweet treat—or whatever fills your cup—and help us turn an ordinary purchase into a little bit of good. 💕
Because if Dolly taught us anything, it's that you can dream big, work hard, be kind, and leave the world a little better than you found it.
Tomorrow, we'll be pouring our cups of ambition for Dolly. ☕️📚💗
Wednesday, August 26 | 9 AM–5 PM
📍 Caribbean Coffeehouse
In loving memory of Dolly Parton, 1946–2026. 🤍

Our team likes suspense! 🫣🫣

Caitlyn has been reading "Dead Women Crossing" by Jeneva Rose 📖

"Dead Women Crossing is more than a thriller—it's a reflection on the echoes left behind by violence and the voices that refuse to be forgotten. Every mile traveled reminds us that the past is never as distant as it seems, and every unanswered question becomes its own kind of ghost.
Beneath the suspense lies a deeper truth: silence can bury a story, but it can never erase it. Justice is not only about finding the guilty—it is about remembering those whose lives deserved more than to become another headline.
Haunting, atmospheric, and impossible to shake, this is a story that lingers like tire tracks on an empty road, reminding us that even the quietest places can hold the loudest truths."

What has Nolan been reading this summer?! Nolan has been reading an old favorite-- "The Witch of Blackbird Pond". 📖

"The Witch of Blackbird Pond is more than a historical novel—it's a quiet meditation on fear, belonging, and the cost of being different.
In a world where suspicion spreads faster than understanding, kindness becomes an act of courage, and independence is mistaken for defiance.
Blackbird Pond becomes a place where still waters reflect an unsettling truth: people often fear what they cannot explain, and labels can wound more deeply than facts. Yet, like the wildflowers that bloom beyond carefully tended gardens, compassion and authenticity refuse to be contained.
This story is a timeless reminder that the greatest trials are not always those imposed by nature, but those born from prejudice—and that true courage is found in remaining yourself when the world demands otherwise."

Mary has been reading a psychological thriller! 📖🫣

"The butcher is more than a man; he is the hunger that strips away humanity. The wren is more than a bird; it is the fragile, persistent spirit that continues to sing, even in the presence of darkness.
Between silence and screams, life and death, this story asks whether light must always fight to exist—or whether it simply refuses to disappear.
Some books entertain. Others leave an echo. This one lingers like a song carried through the trees after the storm has passed."
