We are hatching baby chicks (and yes they are real and alive — that was the number 1 question I got when I introduced these to my class) 🐣

One of my favorite units every year is hatching chicks with my students. We kicked things off with a close reading of Egg to Chicken to learn about the chicken life cycle and understand what stage our eggs are in during incubation.

Now the waiting begins! Over the next 21 days we’ll be observing, learning, and (hopefully!) watching some baby chicks hatch.

Follow along on our chicken journey! 🐥

✨ The 100th Day of School! ✨

Such a huge milestone—especially in TK. For many of my students, this is their first 100 days of school ever.

Their first time away from parents.
Their first classroom friends.
For some, their first time using scissors, glue, or even writing their name.
And for many, their very first teacher. 🥹

All of these “first” moments are memories we get to build together, and I hope they carry them with them forever. 💛

What a privilege it is to be their first teacher and help spark a love for learning and school. ✨

Patterns + play = math magic in TK ✨🧩

This week we have worked on patterns using math cubes, and the kiddos were ALL in. Building, extending, and talking about their patterns made the learning feel fun and natural (aka the best kind of learning).

Why I love hands-on math:
• Helps patterns actually click
• Builds fine motor skills
• Keeps engagement high
• Gives students confidence to explain their thinking

💡Teacher Tip: Give them a few minutes prior to the lesson to play with the cubes to help have full focus on the instruction!

💡Teacher tip for checking understanding: Before transitioning, I hand out a Post-it note and have students draw their own pattern. Quick, easy, and such a helpful way to see who’s got it and who needs a little more support.

Simple materials. Big learning. 💛

🦇 “Where is the bat?” became our favorite question this week!

Using our mini readers, tiny bats, and a pumpkin 🎃, our TK friends practiced prepositions through hands-on play, reading, and math connections. The bats went on top, under, and behind the pumpkin — all while we read, talked, and giggled our way through learning! 💛

✨The Power of Blocks✨

There’s so much more happening than meets the eye when children are building with blocks! 🧱
While it might look like simple play, they’re actually developing a whole range of skills:

🧩 Problem Solving & Creativity — figuring out how to balance, build, and design structures that work.
🧠 Math & Science Concepts — exploring size, shape, weight, balance, and cause & effect.
🗣️ Language Development — using rich vocabulary as they describe, plan, and collaborate with friends.
💪 Fine & Gross Motor Skills — strengthening little hands and improving coordination.
❤️ Social-Emotional Growth — learning to share materials, take turns, and work as a team.

Every block tower tells a story of imagination, perseverance, and learning through play. 🏗️✨

✨ This Week in TK ✨

Our learning was all about the letter Mm, shapes, and fine motor fun!

📚 Literacy: We searched through our library books to spot the letter M and practiced listening for the /m/ sound in words.
🤏 Fine Motor: Pom-poms + tongs, plus lining up blocks on letter mats to strengthen our pincher grasp.
🍕 Math + Art: We created “shape pizzas” by cutting, coloring, and adding shape toppings.

👉 Activities like these build early literacy, fine motor strength, and a love for playful learning!

✨M is for MINI MUFFINS!✨
Today’s letter Mm fun was all about MINI MUFFINS + the classic “Do You Know the Muffin Man?” 🧁🎶

👉 Our little learners became Mm detectives—hunting down every letter M in the poem (highlighting = instant excitement ✨).
👉 Then it was off to the craft table, where half a paper plate, brown paper, and pom-poms transformed into the cutest MINI MUFFINS you’ve ever seen! 🖍️🎨

Letter learning never tasted (or looked) so sweet. 💛

✨ M is for Marvelous Stories! ✨

This week we took the letter M and turned it into a whole adventure. My students created stories using words that begin with “M.” I acted them out with pictures, then wrote down their words. Together, we circled all the letter M’s and finished by drawing our own illustrations to match.

Such a simple, engaging, and hands-on lesson that builds letter recognition, creativity, and early writing skills all at once! 🖍️📚✨

📌 Perfect for the classroom, homeschool, or even a fun at-home learning activity.
