Happy Birthday, Paul! 🎉🤿

Today we celebrate Paul Heinerth—a true pioneer, explorer, educator, mentor, and one of the most influential figures in the world of scuba diving, cave diving, and technical diving.

For decades, Paul has pushed the boundaries of underwater exploration, helping to advance the skills, knowledge, equipment, and mindset that have shaped modern technical and cave diving. His accomplishments beneath the surface are extraordinary, but his greatest contribution may be the countless divers he has inspired, taught, mentored, and encouraged to explore responsibly.

As the owner of Scuba West, Paul has also created a place where divers can learn, grow, share their passion, and become part of a community that values exploration, safety, education, and adventure.

From pioneering exploration to teaching the next generation of divers, Paul's influence reaches far beyond any single dive. His passion for the underwater world is contagious, and his legacy is already woven into the history of our sport.

So today, we raise a tank (or two! 😉) to an incredible life spent exploring the unknown and sharing the underwater world with others.

Calling all divers! The 2026 Women Divers Hall of Fame Diving Medicine Research Grant recipient is recruiting volunteers for a groundbreaking study looking at the impact of recreational diving gases on scuba divers' neurocognitive performance.

If interested in participating as a volunteer diver for the 2026 Women Divers Hall of Fame Laurel Clark Sea to Space Extreme Environmental Physiology Research Project, please fill out the following application: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdVBuwtMa1S2p4_k8VHqC7O59rYKrPadDqsMPlgLG3y_GYyYA/viewform. We are recruiting 100 divers!

If selected as a volunteer, you will be contacted by the study's principal investigator. The research project would involve you making 1 dive with the study's research team to 80 feet at Hudson Grotto/Scuba West. You will be assigned to dive with Air, EANx28, EANx32, or EANx36 and need to be at minimum an Advanced Open Water and Nitrox Diver. While at depth you will fill out a diving slate containing a neurocognitive questionnaire. You can find more information on the flyer posted below. Please feel free to share!
