🍊 Hands-on learning in the grove! Green Jean Foundation intern Lilly Owens-Hines shows us how to install irrigation and Tree Defender individual protective covers for citrus trees. These protective covers help shield young citrus trees from the psyllids that spread citrus greening, while irrigation helps provide the water they need to grow. We love seeing our interns gain hands-on experience with practices that support the future of Florida citrus! 🌱🌳

🐟🌱 A New Aquaponics Adventure Begins at Simmons Career Center!

Green Jean Foundation is excited to announce a new large-scale aquaponics installation at Simmons Career Acceleration Academy in Plant City!

Aquaponics brings biology, water science, plant growth, and problem-solving together in one living classroom. Students can observe how fish and plants depend on one another, monitor water quality, collect real-world data, and explore the science behind sustainable food systems.

For students who benefit from additional academic support, hands-on learning can offer new ways to engage with concepts and build confidence. For students ready for greater academic challenges, the system opens doors to deeper scientific investigation, data analysis, experimentation, and exploration of future STEM and agricultural careers.

A special thank-you to the team at Aquasol, Inc. for installing the system and helping bring this exciting learning opportunity to life! We’re grateful for partners who share our commitment to expanding agricultural education and creating meaningful experiences for students.

We look forward to seeing the Simmons community explore, experiment, and discover what they can grow—one fish, one plant, and one scientific question at a time!

What does it look like to build a career rooted in agriculture? 🌾
In this episode of the Modern Farming Podcast, we sit down with Repp Braun, Tampa Territory Sales Manager for Purple Wave Auction, to hear how his life in agriculture shaped the path he is on today.
Born and raised on a farm and ranch in western Kansas, Repp grew up surrounded by agriculture. After his family moved to the Kansas City area, he continued spending his summers back in western Kansas with his grandparents, who farmed until retiring in 2020.
Repp joined Purple Wave in 2023, building on a lifelong connection to the company and agriculture. After traveling across the country photographing and documenting equipment, he transitioned into his current role serving growers and agricultural communities across Central Florida.
From his roots on a Kansas farm to his career in agricultural equipment and sales, Repp shares how farming has influenced his life, career, and perspective on the future of agriculture.

🌱 Growing, innovating, and learning at Laurel Nokomis Schools! 🌱

The students at Laurel Nokomis are expanding their amazing garden with new bucket gardens provided by Green Jean Foundation! 🪴 These simple, versatile growing systems are giving students another hands-on opportunity to explore agriculture while watching their plants grow from seed to harvest.

But they didn’t stop there! Students also helped set up a solar-powered irrigation system that uses reclaimed water collected from the classroom portable. ☀️💧🌱 What a fantastic way to put sustainability into practice while learning about water conservation, renewable energy, and food production!

Laurel Nokomis is fortunate to have Mr. Kevin O'Gorman leading such a dynamic agriculture program and to have the support of UF/IFAS Master Gardener volunteers like Nina Azima, who generously share their knowledge and experience with students.

Green Jean Foundation is proud to support educators and students who are growing more than gardens—they’re growing agricultural knowledge, stewardship, problem-solving skills, and a deeper connection to the food we grow.🌱💚

🌱💪 A huge thank you to the L3Harris volunteers led by Kris Wiirre who rolled up their sleeves and put in the time and muscle to help build the new garden at Viera Middle School this weekend!

From digging and moving materials to assembling garden beds and getting everything ready to grow, your hard work made a tremendous difference. We truly couldn’t have done it without you! 🙌

At the Green Jean Foundation, we know that great school gardens are built by more than just soil and plants. They’re built by community, collaboration, and people willing to invest their time in creating hands-on learning opportunities for students.

We’re so grateful to the L3Harris team for helping make this garden possible. We can’t wait to see Viera Middle School students get their hands in the soil, grow food, and learn from their new garden! 🌱🥕🍅
