Military families, educators, mentors, and community members — do you know an outstanding military teen who deserves to be recognized?

Operation Homefront’s Military Child of the Year® Awards recognize military children who demonstrate resilience, strength of character, and the ability to thrive through the unique challenges of military life.

⭐ WHAT DO RECIPIENTS RECEIVE?
Award recipients receive a $10,000 cash award, a laptop, and a trip to Washington, D.C. with a parent or guardian for a 3-night stay.

The Awards Gala will be held in Washington, D.C. in April 2027 during the Month of the Military Child.

🎉 Celebrating an Incredible Legacy! 🎉

Please join us in congratulating Julie Fulton on her retirement!

As Camp Lejeune’s original School Liaison—our original SLO, also known as the GOAT 🐐—Julie helped build, shape, and strengthen the School Liaison Program into what it is today.

Throughout her remarkable career, she has supported countless military-connected students and families, helping them navigate school transitions, overcome challenges, and feel welcomed in their new communities.

Julie’s knowledge, compassion, dedication, and heart for military families have left a lasting impact—not only on the families she served, but also on the schools, community partners, and colleagues fortunate enough to work alongside her.

Although Julie will be greatly missed, the foundation she created and the lives she touched will remain an important part of her legacy for many years to come.

Thank you, Julie, for your many years of service and for leading the way for School Liaisons at Camp Lejeune–New River. We wish you all the happiness and relaxation you deserve in this exciting new chapter! 💐💜

🐴 HOMESCHOOL FAMILIES — JOIN US AT THE BASE STABLES! 🐴

The MCCS School Liaisons are excited to offer a Homeschool Field Trip to the Lejeune Base Stables!

Students will learn about horses, basic care techniques, and stable maintenance while also observing a riding demonstration led by experienced staff. This hands-on experience offers a fun introduction to working with and caring for horses! 🐎

📍 Lejeune Base Stables
👧🧒 Ages 5–18

⭐ Open to authorized patrons.
⚠️ Space is VERY limited — first come, first served!

📢 IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR NC FAMILIES WITH TEEN DRIVERS! 🚗

Beginning October 1, 2026, North Carolina will no longer require a Driving Eligibility Certificate (DEC) for teens to obtain a learner’s permit or provisional driver’s license.

🏡 For homeschool families: This means families will no longer need to obtain a DEC through the NC Division of Non-Public Education (DNPE) as part of the licensing process.

⚠️ Important: This does NOT eliminate North Carolina’s driver education requirements. Teens must still complete the required driver’s education course and behind-the-wheel instruction and meet all other requirements for their permit/license.

📅 Applying before October 1? The current DEC requirements remain in effect through September 30, 2026, so families should continue following the existing process until the new law takes effect.
