Northwest Elementary School

This November, Howell Public Schools residents will be asked to consider two ballot proposals related to the district’s non-homestead operating millage. If approved, one proposal would renew the current millage, while the other would restore millage authorization that has been reduced due to Headlee Amendment rollbacks.

Between now and Election Day, we will share facts and information about the proposals to help our community understand what will appear on the ballot.

Hi! I’m Marissa Alfano, and I’ve been a Social Worker in Howell since 2021. I earned my Master of Social Work from Wayne State University, with a concentration in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and my undergraduate degree in Psychology, with a concentration in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).

Before becoming a social worker, I spent six years working at an ABA center. I’m excited to be returning from maternity leave this fall after welcoming my beautiful daughter, Palmer! At home, my husband and I also have four fur babies—one dog and three cats. 🐶🐱🐱🐱

I am so excited to be joining the Northwest community! I firmly believe that parents are their child’s number-one expert and advocate, and I look forward to partnering with families to support our students!

Hi everyone! My name is Olivia McMahon, and I am so excited to introduce myself as the new 1st grade teacher at Northwest Elementary!

I recently graduated from Northern Michigan University with a degree in Elementary Education, and I am thrilled to begin my teaching career in 1st grade!

Hi, everyone! My name is Emily Bradley, and I am beyond excited to introduce myself as the new 2nd grade teacher at Northwest Elementary! This is my first year teaching 2nd grade, and I couldn't be more thrilled to begin this new chapter. Over the past several years, I've had the joy of working in a Pre-K setting, where my passion for helping young learners grow and thrive has only become stronger.

I am so grateful to be joining the Northwest family and can't wait to meet my amazing students and their families. I'm looking forward to a year filled with learning, laughter, growth, and lots of unforgettable memories. Here's to an incredible school year!

🎒 Backpacks for Kids is tomorrow! 🎒

Join us tomorrow, Thursday, Aug. 6, from 4-6 p.m. in the Howell High School south parking lot for our annual Backpacks for Kids distribution!

Families are invited to stop by for free backpacks filled with school supplies to help students start the new school year ready for success. 📚✏️

But that’s not all! The event will also feature:
📚 Free books from the Highlander Reading Express
🤝 A community resource fair connecting families with local organizations and services
🎉 A few special surprises along the way!

Good News! School meals are free again this year!

Even though meals are free, we still encourage all eligible families to complete the Education and Nutrition Benefits Application. This application may help your family qualify for additional benefits, such as:
• Reduced or waived testing and college application fees
• Discounted home internet
• Summer EBT benefits
