Dementia ravages the brains of some 55 million people worldwide, but some sufferers are reaping the benefits of an unexpected therapy: music. "Memory choirs" are using song to unlock the minds of patients with dementia. Now, researchers see an opportunity to turn music into treatment.

I love teaching music. My musical voice is one of the most important things to me, and I love it when one of my students finds their own.
May is one of the big performance months for my students. In all of the avenues that I teach music, I see nearly 200 different students every week. These kids are performing nonstop this month.
Tomorrow is one of my favorite shows. Every quarter, Michigan Rock School puts on a show to allow students to showcase what they’ve been working on.
I teach the youngest of the rock stars here. My time with them is some of my favorite. I teach in a way that everything is geared to performing, even for the little guys. I love that my teaching style meets Michigan Rock School right where it lives.
Tomorrow is going to be a great day. Not one of my students will fail to outdress me!

About half of the youth choir I direct was able to participate in a program today called United in Song. They got to work with guest clinician, Dr. Gabriela Hristrova. It was a fantastic day of music making!
