Job shadowing is a great way for students to learn more about the careers available to them in their future. We are especially blessed in our county to have so many employers like Livingston County Government, who are willing to open their doors to let students explore! Check back here for info on June Job Jumpstart - job shadowing through the month of June!!

Livingston County had the honor of hosting local high school students for a job shadowing event today. Marco Ferrera, a student from Brighton Area Schools, was able to tour the building and meet with the County Administrator and the Deputy HR Director.

Livingston Educational Service Agency organizes this event with the purpose of giving high school students the chance to observe daily operations of local employers and see firsthand what it takes to succeed in different careers.

After his experience, Marco found that shadowing is about more than just the job itself, as it also exposes you to the skills needed to succeed in life:

- Shadowing at the county is fascinating for high school students because they get to see firsthand how the different departments collaborate and impact their daily lives as a resident of our community. As someone working in county government, you get to deal with new challenges each day.

- As a student looking to build employability skills, it is important to begin working on your soft skills as soon as possible. This includes crucial skills such as leadership, professionalism, and communication.

Thank you to LESA, our local high schools, and participating organizations for making the job shadowing event possible. Marco recommends that high schoolers should take advantage of these opportunities as they provide real life scenarios of different career paths.
