STOP using cardboard as a mulch!!
As the weather changes people start thinking about new flower and vegetable garden beds.
Removing grass and weeds is always a chore, but so necessary.
Many people resort to covering the area to avoid the manual labor of removal. Covering the area is a great chemical free way to start your new beds if you are not using cardboard.
Recent research has shown that cardboard adds PFAS (forever chemicals) to your soil. Research also shows that your plant DO take up these chemicals and the chemicals are going into the fruits, vegetables, and foliage. Research is still being done on the flowers.
Here are some alternatives to use
-solarifacation
- nonglossy newspaper
-3-4" of mulch (our favorite is leaf mulch)
Here's and article from MSU for more indepth information:PFAS In Home Gardens - PFAS Contamination in Agriculture https://share.google/aRwFydSe1hjcgHFqa

Root veggie harvest today!
Emptying space for the next round. You just can't beat fresh from the garden carrots and radish.
I will finally get to eat some of my khalarabi thanks to the gated entrance. It stopped the theif, aka R***r, from pulling and eating them :)
Silly dog, I guess he likes his veggies.

What a great day at the ranch!
We welcomed the The Brighton Tot Spot for Field Trip Friday- 110 students, 25 chaperone, and 7 amazing staff (okay, family and friends) enjoyed the day of sunshine and fun.
We made seed balls, decorated bird houses, had a nature scavenger hunt, and learned about flowers, pollinators, and oxygen with 2 game stations.
Thanks to all that came and helped!!
Looking for a location for a field trip? We have many options and opportunities. Message us or email April for more info [email protected]

I dont normally cut my flowers to put in vases. I just can't, it kills me.
But...my Hydrangea were touching the ground and needed some pruning.
I had some pruned up left over hosta leaves, my carrots went to seed, and my nine bark was, well just there, lol.
So I made myself a bouquet for the house :)
Did you know?
Carrot flowers are super fragrant. This variety started out white and turned purple. I might start growing some just for the flowers.
If you have Hydrangea bending over and touching the ground, taking off a few flower heads on some branches will make the branches lighter and lift your plant off the ground.
Hosta leaves make beautiful bouquets. Sometimes a hosta sports a tall stem with big leaves. I like to cut those and use them in arrangements.
