We have baby quail hatching again. These guys hatched at day 16! This is why people enjoy quail because the turn around for new birds is so quick. Now the big question is if Josh and I can get up the nerve to try processing some home grown adult quail since I hate raising meat chickens. We now officially have celedon, cornix, and snowflake colored qauil!

Well we were supposed to have a lot of rain this weekend, it didn't happen for us but it was so muggy. We changed our plans for our last cousin sleep over before school starts and I took on some canning. Overall a great productive weekend with amazing family!
I love never having to think if I'm on call for work or not because I have so many things to fill my weekends with! Just this weekend we did all this:
✔️ Basic homesteading chores for aniamls + garden plus cleaned the house
✔️ New Spiderman Movie
✔️ 4 boy cousins + Kylie sleepover (it's good she is a tom boy and can hang with them all)
✔️ 24 Quarts of my Chicken Base I add to soup and casseroles
✔️ 13 Quarts of Vegetable Beef Soup
✔️ 7 Quarts of Chili Bean and even made chili!
✔️ 12 pints bread and butter pickles
✔️ 25 pints dill pickles
✔️ Survived and cooked for 5 crazy kiddos
Hope you all had an amazing weekend as well. Did you do anything fun or just relaxed? Do you guys want me to share recipes. More animal fun? What would you like to see/learn?

Hi everyone so sorry it's been awhile. Life has been insane. The farm stand will be opened soon. We were hoping to get it all fixed this weekend but now it's raining all weekend so we will see. Fair went great I'll post some updates later. The animals are great and we still have a few baby bunnies looking for new homes. They are a rare breed called Cinnamons. The garden is growing like crazy just picked all these dang cucumbers this morning. Needless to say we grow them bug! The one photo are the cucumbers touching the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket! The really light cucumbers are going to the animals and I'm going to start some canning today! The last photo is of my giant sunflowers that are well over 6ft tall!

Sorry everyone I have been absent on here. To say this past week-ish has been a lot is an understatement! Between shaving 4 cows , 2 goats, blood testing chickens, 4-H projects, and trying to keep all animals cool especially the rabbits on these 90+ degree days, on top of work...I am beat. I kept going back and forth but at the end of the day I realized I was doing stupid things like staying up until 1am trying to make bread and baked goods, then turning around and being up again at 5am to finish bread and then head to a dairy cow show that took about 12 hours of the day between loading, showing, returning the cows back to the farm. So unfortunately by no means are we done with this farmstand adventure, it's just on pause until after fair. I took this weekend to worry about our animals and our projects and I finally feel like I'm not drowning! Kylie was also part of the Parade as the Grand Marshall for the Angola Gymnastics team. Then of course Mackenzie was busy making sure everyone was safe with her duties as a fire fighter for Rome City! We got to spend sometime with some of our favorite people, overall it was an amazing weekend. I would like to invite everyone local to join us at the Lagrange County Fair next Sat 11th-18! Following that we will resume the farmstand! Until then I need to listen to my body and I can't keep pushing it the way I was. Here's to finding that happy medium, hope everyone had an amazing 4th of July. Random photo dump of things around here the past week.

Good morning everyone! We have reached crunch time...in 2 weeks we will be at the amazing Lagrange County 4H. So that means Kylie and I are shaving, washing, brushing, weighting, tattooing aminals like crazy! Yesterday and today Kylie will be showing 2 of her cows at the Kendallville Open Dairy Show. This evening and tomorrow will be tons of work with the goats, rabbits, and birds. Anyways hoping the farm stand will be back in order by next weekend. I did fail...my bread was a bust and flat....someone may...or may not have turned the oven on and forgot my sourdough starter was in there. It just got more warm than it liked but it's resting for a few days and all will be fine. So unfortunately there is no bread but there are chocolate chip muffins and sourdough blueberry muffins for $2 each. Sorry I didn't have more time to do other baked goodies but come get some muffins! *forgot to get photo of the muffins but here is my flat bread 😆 and my Kylie!

My night was just made. I love where we live. I love this farming life. I love the happiness our animals bring us and other people. I made friends with an amish boy that lives about a mile down the road. This evening he knocked at our door and wanted to know if he could go feed our catfish and the other fish. Then I showed them all the bunnies, ferrets, chickens quail, goats, and ducks. They had never seen ferrets before and they liked them alot. Oh yeah and about the pond and the fish. When we moved here 11 years ago there were a few fish in it and there were 4 catfish. Well we have 3 now but they are huge. These amish kids are very interested in feeding them and catching them to see how big they are. We don't want to take the risk of them getting torn up with a hook so the boys are going to get a fishing net because they want to measure them and see how big they truly are. Anyone that's been here knows these guys are huge, so soon we will actually know. Here's a videos I took a few months ago of the catfish. They are hard to see how long they are though. 🐟 In summary I love our community and that we are able to connect with others through our animals! Last weekend there were 3 amish boys trying to fix our farmstand after the storm, 1 of the boy was the same one that came back tonight. Not only that when I was laid up from surgery our amish guy we buy rabbit feed from literally gave us rabbit feed for 3 months for free...no pay me back when you can, just a here I want to help you guys since you have been such good customers. I remember growing up as a child my dad worked with the amish some and it was always so cool to go spend the day on the farm with the amish families while my dad was working. I'm tired and I'm rambling in circles now but in the end of the day LOVE THY NEIGHBOR, and don't be afraid to open your home to a stranger.
