Im so proud of you my coach !! You are a big deal man... congratulations Fernando keep enjoying my friend
...let's not forget who was behind all of us like a mom, putting up the tent at 5AM so everybody had a place to stay, chearing up for everybody, taking pictures, covering us all at the end with the cover that she has in the picture....Andrea, you are the best, you deserve more than an Ironman medal for allways being there for me and for the rest...you brought light, encouragement, and love to all of us. I felt more than a winner for having you there with me..I love you!
Congratulations to our teammate, Brage Johannessen, for qualifying to the 70.3 World Championship! Well done Brage...you deserve it!!!

An amazing tri adventure with a midnight sun, cold-wet-windy conditions…and steep climbs!

- This was a midnight race with rain, fog, wind, hills….yeah, this was probably one of the toughest races I’ve ever done.

- The Journey: our journey started a few days before, Andrea, Geoff, and I took the challenge of competing in this extreme triathlon. Andrea and Geoff were my support crew, and they did a fantastic job providing what I needed during the bike portion. This type races require a lot of logistics and coordination, and without them, this would have been an impossible.

- The Race: the race included 4,000 yards of swimming; 112 miles of biking and a full marathon across the mountains. It was a non-supported race, meaning that you and your support have to figure everything out, from lights to nutrition, to route changes. This is really what makes these races an adventure.

- The Swim: the swimming was hard due to strong currents and wind. It was also difficult to see the buoys and swim in a straight line. We were not many people so it felt like you were swimming solo. At some point I honestly thought about giving up, thinking that I was last and everybody else left. In fact it took me longer that always, 1:30 hours when usually this type of swim takes me 1:15 hours. I finally manage to relax and complete the swim, and yes, almost last!

- The Bike: the bike portion included 112 miles of tortuous windy open roads with 5,500ft of elevation gain. Out of the water, ran towards transition and start preparing for a long day (night actually). My red back light didn’t work so Andrea improvised with another light we had. With rain and strong winds in my face, the first 3 miles included a steep ascend. This climb really warmed me up. Knowing that I was probably last at this point, I rode as hard as I possible could, passing people, one after another one until I realized that I was probably in the front again. Andrea and Geoff were there every 10 miles or so waiting to see if I needed anything. I wanted to recover from the slow swim so I barely stopped and push very hard on the bike. I only stopped a couple of times to get some rest in my back but knew I would pay for this hard work later on.

- The Run: the run included 26 miles with 5,700ft of elevation gain, and at least 16 of this miles were up hill. By the time I finished the bike I was in 2nd place, and the 1st place was just in front of me starting the run. Honestly, as the point it didn’t matter much; however, it provided me the confidence and the strength to keep pushing. I pushed so hard on the bike that my legs could barely move a step at a time for a gentle walk. The first mile before hitting the mountain was flat but what was waiting for me was nothing but steep ascends, strong winds, rain, cold, and a long way up the mountain. I literally walked for the first 7 miles to the top. This was the hardest run I ever experience in my life, it felt that I was in the North Pole, making a National Geographic documentary about penguins and harsh conditions. The top was around mile 8, and seeing the other side of the mountain felt amazing. The next 5 miles were a steep downhill running, and all you needed were good quads ready to support the steep descends. Andrea and Geoff were waiting for me at mile 13, ready to cheer me up and provide anything I would need. The challenge was mental, knowing that I needed to go back with the next 5 miles being nothing but walking up….up…and up. Finally managed to get to the top again and start running again for an encouraging 8 miles downhill.

- The Finish: this race had one of the most gratifying finishes of all. It is not full of people but you can see the finish line from half mile away. You can basically see the flags, and your support team waiting for you. Also, when you finish the Icelandic volunteers are waiting for you with a warm, home made, most yummy plate of soup I’ve ever had. They also invited me with a whiskey and were just the most welcoming people I’ve ever seen.

- The Credits: all credits really go to Andrea and Geoff, who were nothing but supportive all the way. Andrea is just a beautiful wife and partner who is an amazing support. And Geoff, what a friend, who does that? Who travels thousands of miles to support a friend on a race like this. Thank you so much to both of you, my respects.

- Well, that is all for now, until my next adventure….which will be much harder by the way. Thank you all for your kinds words and support.

Garmin had my running workout as “unproductive” even though it was a 7:34 min/mile pace…I guess at least I was faster than the turtle I saw while running!

So proud of our Forever Tri Team with such amazing performance in yesterday's Ironman races! Alana, with her magnificence performance in Steelhead 70.3 and qualifying for the World Championship 70.3; Millad finishing strong his full Ironman in Coeur d'Alene with an incredible time and a PR; And Eduardo with his "redemption" race and a new PR in Lubbock. I know how big of a sacrifice it is to train as had as they did, well done and well deserved accomplishments....my respects to you!

Off Road National Championship in New Jersey yesterday! Cold water, very rocky mountain bike course , and a twisty run. Finished 4th on my age group and qualified for Worlds in Australia in 2022. Sad for our friend Charlie that although finished the race endup in the ER after a crash. Anyway, he is a tough guy and will recover quickly. As always, thank you to Andre for her support and making sure I always have what I need.

Another reminder that medals don’t matter, what matters is what you’ve accomplished! They sent this huge beautiful medal a week ago before I have to run it, so always , always get it done and never ever take credit for things you didn’t do. ...I just completed the virtual Abbott World Marathon today! #abbotworldmarathon #globalrunclub

Back to back racing this weekend...Here is a brief recap of the 2 races!

Finished 2nd on Xterra triathlon. As in mos cases, finished the swimming in the middle of the pack. The bike was very rocky and I was “stopped” by a couple of trees and a cactus, also had a flat 3 miles before the finish line, tried to fix it but endup the last two miles with a flat again. 4 or 5 guys passed me then but I passed some of them back in the running, finishing in 2nd.

Today, I ran 36k trail race, there were only a handful of people and 2 of the guys looked very serious so I took off and didn’t hold back at all, except until mile 15 where I tripped and hit the dirt pretty bad...recovered quickly and finished strong in first place with a time of 2:53.

Drove 3.5 hours back home with a few scratches but happy with the team results and getting back to racing.

Thank you to Andrea for always being there to support me!
