We’re feeling nostalgic this Thursday, so we’re reliving a “classic” moment from 1986. Take a look back at the Ocean of Soul’s halftime performance during the 2nd Labor Day Classic played inside the Astrodome.

From 1986 to today, one thing remains clear: the standard never changes at Texas Southern!

Fast forward to 2026, and the rivalry is bigger than ever as the 41st Labor Day Classic kicks off this Sunday at 11 AM in Prairie View, TX.

Sending an extra-special thank you to Ronald Thornton for having the foresight to capture this moment on VHS to preserve these gems for generations of Tigers to experience!

The inaugural Maroon Monday was a SUCCESS! 🙌🏽

Tigers, we’re starting something new this season. After every Texas Southern University Football win, we’re calling on the entire Tiger community to wear MAROON the following Monday to celebrate the win together!

A big shoutout to Tiger Football for starting the season STRONG and to the Tigers who showed up today wearing maroon with pride. Now, it’s on to Labor Day Classic Week! 🐯

It's easy to say "we made it to Friday" and coast into the weekend. Not our Journalism students. They spend their Fridays in the studio putting their classroom learning into practice with a newscast. The content is shot, written and edited by students. The show is produced by students. Students run the cameras, the teleprompter, the audio board, and they anchor the show. We're producing the next generation of outstanding journalists in Tigerland!

The University Museum at Texas Southern University is set to host two exhibitions under one roof. The Art Faculty Biennial Exhibition and the "Brown Renfro: The Professor. The Student. The Curator" exhibition will run from August 29 through October 25.

"Brown Renfro: The Professor, The Student, The Curator" will be on display from August 29 through October 25, alongside The Art Faculty Biennial Exhibition.

The new exhibition explores Houston artist Leon Renfro's legacy through his family, former student and granddaughter.
