Excellence in achievement, leadership in action! 🐅 Texas Southern University proudly welcomes alumnus Aulston Taylor ’03, President and CEO of St. Augustine High School in New Orleans, as the Grand Marshal of the 99th Texas Southern Homecoming Parade!

A graduate of TSU’s Jesse H. Jones School of Business, Taylor continues to champion educational excellence and opportunity. Under his leadership, St. Augustine has invested $21 million in campus improvements and is advancing a $30 million capital campaign to expand opportunities for the next generation of young men.

Taylor has been a steadfast supporter of his alma mater. In 2025, he established the $25,000 Wilson-Taylor Purple Knight Scholarship Fund to support incoming freshman male students from St. Augustine High School attending TSU. The scholarship further exemplifies Taylor’s longstanding commitment to expanding educational opportunities for the next generation of Tigers.

The enduring connection between the two institutions is reflected in the 34 St. Aug Purple Knights currently enrolled at Texas Southern University.

His partnership with the University also includes hosting President James W. Crawford III for a tour of St. Augustine’s campus, participating in several Presidential Tiger Chats, and joining President Crawford at multiple stops during his 2024 nationwide Tiger Tour in the President’s first year of leadership.

From 3100 Cleburne to the halls of St. Augustine in New Orleans, Taylor exemplifies the power of educational leadership, service, and the enduring Tiger spirit. Join us in welcoming our Grand Marshal home!

We extend our deepest condolences to Marquise’s family, friends, classmates, professors, and all who knew and loved him. During this difficult time, we encourage members of the TSU community to lean on one another and seek support when needed.

Counseling resources are available through the TSU University Counseling Center (UCC), located inside the University Health Center at 4110 Tierwester St., Houston, TX 77004. Appointments are available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., by calling 713-313-7804. For after-hours emergencies, please contact the After-Hours Crisis Number at 713-313-7863.

May Marquise’s memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him. We hope his loved ones find comfort in the memories they shared, the lives he touched, and the love that surrounds them.

As we enter Homecoming Week, a time of community, tradition, and celebration, we pause to remember the Tigers who are no longer with us but will forever hold a place in our hearts and be present in spirit at 3100 Cleburne.

A story decades in the making is coming to the screen!

Texas Southern University and its School of Communication are proud to announce the official trailer for Paragraphs of a Paige, a new hybrid biographical short film chronicling the life and legacy of Dr. Roderick "Rod" Paige. The film traces his journey from his upbringing in segregated Mississippi and his tenure at Texas Southern University to becoming the first African American U.S. Secretary of Education.

Directed by Emmy® and NAACP Image Award® nominated filmmaker Isaac Yowman, the film brings Paige’s story to life through scripted performances, historical reenactments, and poetic storytelling. NAACP Image Award nominee Woody McClain portrays Paige during a defining chapter of his life, alongside Broadway actor Shawn Hamilton and Thomas “Nephew Tommy” Miles.

TSU’s School of Communication played an integral role in bringing this story to the screen, with filming taking place on various campus locations, student production support, and hands-on collaboration coordinated by Assistant Professor and film producer Vincent M. Powell.

As a treasured part of Texas Southern's history, Dr. Paige’s journey from coach and educator to U.S. Secretary of Education is a legacy the University was proud to help bring to life.
