The City of Houston proclaimed March 25, 2024, as Crime Stoppers NEEDS Program Day. NEEDS (Neurodiversity, Education, Empowerment, Delivery, and Safety) underscores a commitment to championing the safety, well-being, and empowerment of the special needs community of Houston. NEEDS Program proactively works to prevent crimes against this vulnerable population and educates both those who live with and serve them on risks and safety solutions. ADVANCE co-founder Dr. Michele Joseph and staff counselor Brodie Simmons were in attendance along with members from other organizations and advocacy groups to celebrate this important recognition.

We are excited to share an update from Andrew, one of our learners who recently earned a job! Here's what Andrew had to say:
"I have a job! This is a big step for me and, so far, the experience has been amazing.
The job process took a lot of effort on my part. I did most of the real work myself but I am so grateful to ADVANCE for helping me understand the rules and expectations of the interview and employment process. ADVANCE worked with me on learning the steps to making an application, creating a résumé, and practicing my interview skills. My cohort learned most of the information using the NextUp curriculum but the ADVANCE staff did a great job of helping me understand how those lessons applied to my individual experience. At ADVANCE, I had the opportunity to improve my job skills, focusing on verbal and nonverbal communication, and to bring important transferable skills from other parts of my life experience.
The most valuable thing I learned is that there are going to be ups and downs in a job search. And while that can be discouraging, this experience has taught me that you can make big things happen when you focus on self improvement and taking action. I have learned that this is a key to my success in searching for a job and in life."
We are proud of the hard work our learners are doing to find and keep jobs that they want.
