Siblings are part of the journey too. 💕

When one child in the family is in ABA therapy, brothers and sisters often have questions, feelings, and their own ways of wanting to help.

At Arete Behavioral Solutions, we encourage families to include siblings in the process:
👫 Teach siblings about autism in age-appropriate ways
👫 Model positive interaction strategies at home
👫 Celebrate progress as a whole family
👫 Create one-on-one time for each child

Strong sibling relationships are some of the most powerful supports a child can have. And with the right guidance, siblings can become each other's biggest cheerleaders.

Parents ask us all the time: "How do I know therapy is actually working?" 📊

Great question. At Arete Behavioral Solutions, we don't leave progress to guesswork. Our BCBA shares data with you regularly so you can see exactly how your child is growing.

Here's what transparent progress looks like:
📈 Clear baseline measurements before therapy starts
📈 Ongoing data tracking every session
📈 Monthly parent meetings to review goals
📈 Visual charts so you can see the trend over time

Your child's progress isn't a mystery. It's measurable, visible, and celebrated — together.

WHY WE STILL NEED AUTISM AWARENESS IN 2026 🧩

"Isn't everyone already aware of autism?"

Aware that it exists? Maybe.

But true awareness means understanding things like:

→ 1 in 36 children is diagnosed with autism (CDC, 2023)
→ The average age of diagnosis is still 4-5 years old — despite signs being present much earlier
→ Black and Hispanic children are diagnosed later and less often, not because autism is less common, but because of systemic barriers to evaluation
→ Many families wait 12+ months for an evaluation appointment
→ Insurance coverage for ABA therapy varies wildly by state and plan
→ There are still communities where autism is stigmatized and misunderstood

Awareness isn't just about wearing blue or sharing a puzzle piece.

It's about:
✅ Pediatricians screening earlier and more consistently
✅ Schools providing real support, not just compliance
✅ Insurance companies covering the therapy families need
✅ Communities making spaces sensory-friendly
✅ Parents feeling safe to ask for help without judgment
✅ Employers creating inclusive workplaces

This month matters. Not because autism needs a spotlight — but because the families navigating it every day deserve better systems, better support, and less stigma.

At Arete, we're not just raising awareness. We're doing the work — one child, one family at a time.

HOW TO PREPARE YOUR CHILD WITH AUTISM FOR A DOCTOR'S VISIT 🏥

Doctor visits can be overwhelming for any kid. For children with autism, the unpredictability, sensory input, and long waits can make it especially challenging.

Here's how to set your child up for success:

BEFORE THE VISIT:
📖 Read a social story about going to the doctor (we can help you make one!)
📸 Show pictures of the office, the waiting room, and the doctor if possible
🗓️ Use a visual schedule: First car, then waiting room, then doctor, then done
💬 Practice — use a toy doctor kit to role-play what will happen

DAY OF:
🎧 Bring noise-canceling headphones
📱 Bring a preferred item or activity for the waiting room
⏰ Request the first appointment of the day (less waiting = less stress)
🗣️ Tell the front desk your child has autism — most offices will accommodate
👟 Let your child wear comfortable clothes (skip the jeans if sensory is an issue)

DURING THE VISIT:
✅ Ask the doctor to explain each step before doing it
✅ Use a visual "first-then" board: first stethoscope, then sticker
✅ Take breaks if needed — it's okay
✅ Praise and reinforce every step your child tolerates

AFTER:
🎉 Celebrate! Even if it didn't go perfectly, your child DID something hard
🍦 Follow up with a preferred activity or treat
📝 Write down what worked so you can repeat it next time

You know your child best. These strategies help make the unfamiliar feel safer.
